DEEPESH MAINTAINS WINNING STREAK

By Ikram Khan | 25 Dec 2021 | CHENNAI

The promising Deepesh Narredu maintained his winning streak recording a grand treble. The youngster, who had combined effectively with brother Yash to record a double on Friday, led in one more to make it a memorable `high- five'  for the week-end and taking into account that all his five winners were well fancied public choices, the punters enjoyed the action at Guindy, gearing up to host the Invitation Cup on the first Sunday of March.

Deepesh first led in Storm Breaker, the winner of the plum event, the T Dhevanathan Yadav Winner Trophy. The smart winner piloted by Yash tracked the leader Copper Queen for most part of the sprint trip before Yash packed punch to assume command 300 metres from home and then Storm Breaker readily put the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Catelyn partnered by Prashanth Dhebe gained the runner-up spot after the last start winner Copper Queen failed to reproduce her winning effort and eventually finished in the ruck. Star Twist did well to save money in place while Glorious Destiny was never in the hunt.

After guiding home Storm Breaker, Yash Narredu suffering from food poisoning opted out and it was Nakhat Singh, who piloted the most impressive winner of the six-event card, Priceless Beauty to a resounding victory in the principal added attraction, the P M Antony Memorial Trophy run over a sprint. The winner, who was fancied most on the strength of his pleasing movements in the morning trials detonated his seven rivals the moment the race came on a boil and galloped home in emphatic fashion. Priceless Beauty make no mistake is on top of her game and it will pay to follow her again when next saddled. Chaposa Springs expectedly gained the runner-up spot ahead of Dark Son who looked a trifle gross in the paddock.

In line for a treble, Deepesh in the concluding event, the River Knight Handicap sent out strong and well backed favourite Lady Mimi and the on-money favourite in the hands of Brisson proved too hot to handle romping home without unduly being extended. Moonlight Sonata finished second behind the winner and it will not be long before this Sebastian ward earns her cornbill. Wisaka from Saddam Iqbal's yard too caught the eye and is one for the note book.

In the opening event, the lesser fancied Driftwood Pacific from trainer Vishesh's yard made every post a winning one in the 1000 metres dash. Apprentice boy Ram Nandan Manjhi displayed good temperament, confidently taking his mount to the front and never letting the initiative slip to the delight of the Vishesh camp. The favourite Stern Maiden partnered by Sai Kumar found Drift Pacific a hard nut to crack and had to rest content with the runner-up berth. Priceless Treasure who finished a game third, a `nose' behind the runner-up Stern Maiden appears to have improved most and it will pay to keep an eye on this five-year-old mare from the stables of lady trainer Rupa in the weeks ahead.

The bred in the purple Rays Of Sun from P Krishna's yard proved too good in the Dancing Glances Handicap run over a mile. The favourite piloted by Prashanth Dhebe took charge at the distance post before powering through to win in convincing fashion. Stablemates Royal Commander and Eagle Prince from Robert Foley's yard finished second and third respectively while Waytogo leisurely completed the frame. Rays Of Sun it appears is in good nick and is set to provide an encore.

War Emblem from Sebastian's yard shocked the followers of form showing a clean pair of heels in the Silver Birch Handicap run over a sprint. The ten to one shot piloted by Brisson, the lone rider to record a double, needed to dig deep into his reserves to produce the winning final surge to peg back the challenges of the runner-up Rwanda and Uncle Sam who appears poised to enter the winners' circle in the weeks ahead.
