Trainer S Narredu leading Imperial Power (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Tetrasoft Bangalore Winter Million (Gr.3)

Form played true on Derby eve and most punters returned home satisfied with the results on Tuesday with the hope that the favourites will continue to gallop into the winners' circle on D-day. Five favourites and one well supported second choice, Capable helped the followers of form make good gains on their investments before the big action on Republic Day. The in-form Priceless Gold recorded his fourth straight win this season winning the Commemoration Trophy run over a mile in splendid style and on the strength of this victory is certain to maintain his winning streak and record a high-five when saddled next. The topweighted Northern Alliance attempted to make every post a winning one in the mile long trip, but the moment Suraj Narredu cracked the whip on the public rage, it was all over bar the shouting. Electra did well to gain the runner-up spot ahead of Northern Alliance, while Automatic completed the frame.

Suraj earlier booted home Imperial Power, who made a smashing debut in the Tetrasoft Winter Million run over a sprint The fashionably bred colt, who had impressed most in the morning trials was touted a `moral certainty' by all track reporters taking into account his brilliant final preparatory gallop. And Imperial Power justified their confidence romping home in resplendent style. Disruptor was also fancied by his stable connections, but the Sulaiman Attaollahi ward found Imperial Power too hot to handle. In the next event, the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy, the public choice Star Glory to the delight of the railbirds powered home snuffing the challenge of the well backed, second in demand at the betting ring, Place Vendome.

Top gun Srinath produced a classy effort on the favourite Four Wheel Drive, which warmed the hearts of many a lover of sport. Astride the Dominic schooled public choice, in the mile long event, Srinath chose to play the waiting game while the other two fancied runners, Pink Jasmine from the stables of Sulaiman and Electric Blue from Parvati Byramji's yard called the shots for most part of the trip. The moment the race came on a boil, Srinath packed punch on the Dominic ward and Four Wheel Drive readily responding to his master's call produced a good turn of foot to put the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Pink Jasmine beat Electric Blue by the shortest of margins to gain the runner-up berth, while Sacrament filled the frame.

It was good to see young Azhar Ali lead in Whizzo. The winner surprisingly was ignored in the betting ring despite his eye-catching effort in his last essay. The Irfan Ghatala schooled Garamond on the strength of his impressive second behind Antibes in his last essay was fancied most and last start winner Drusilla too had her fair share of supporters but the two failed to make an impression on the winner who stole a march at the distance post before Jagadeesh relentlessly drove him out in the final furlong to peg back the belated effort of Caracas who caught the eye with the late dash and is one for the note book. Garamond finished a tame third and Hokkaido it was clear was never in the hunt.

The second in demand at the betting ring, Capable who had disappointed his followers in his last essay, finishing third over a mile made ample amends, coming up trumps in the upper division of the Lakshmana Thirtha Plate run over a sprint. The Sharath Kumar ward piloted in copybook fashion by Sai Kumar seized the initiative in the final furlong to edge out Golden Vision. Gypsy was fancied strongly by his connections in place and the gutsy nine-year-old in the hands of apprentice jockey Ikram Ahmed managed to finish third to the delight of the Inayathullah camp. The favourite Copper Sunrise raced in patches and eventually finished in the ruck.

The Neil Darashah-trained Livisilla was fancied strongly in the opening event, the Luni Plate but the favourite failed in her effort to produce her best and had to rest content with the third spot. Lantana from Darius Byramji's yard piloted by John reigned supreme in convincing fashion from the Prithviraj schooled Dream Chaser. The runner-up appears to have improved most and it will pay to follow this improved performer in his next start.
