PUNTERS ENJOY BETTER OF EXCHANGES

Trainer S Narredu leading Golden Vision (Vinod Shinde Up), winner of The Shivamogga Plate

The card appeared tricky and the racing buffs exercised caution, and in the end it turned out to be a good day from the punters point of view, four firm favourites and one well supported second choice, Top Dancer entering the winners circle to the delight of the railbirds in the seven-event card on Thursday. The Arjun Manglorkar schooled Top Dancer making his debut in the lower division of the Valley Of Flowers Plate was well supported by the insiders and the right connections in the Arjun camp. The four-year-old filly consistently was producing pleasing performances on the trial track and it is needless to mention that Arjun fancied the daughter of Top Class to make a winning debut. Limited Edition from Irfan Ghatala's yard  garnered the maximum support despite the fact that Anjar Alam still seeking his maiden win this season was listed to partner the Irfan ward. The favourite was in contention a furlong from home, but the moment John astride Top Dancer got busy and Arvind Kumar guiding the fortunes of the rankoutsider The Adviser stormed up to fight the finish, Limited Edition dropped out and it was Top Dancer who powered home to record a impressive victory on debut. The Adviser gained the runner-up berth and on the strength of this performance is certain to earn his cornbill when saddled next,. The topweighted Mega Success after gaining a favourable position early on in the race finished a creditable third and it will pay to follow this Inayathullah ward in the months ahead.

The upper division of the event saw the two market leaders Peyo from trainer Satish Narredu's yard  and Own Legacy from the stables of Ganapathy dominate the finish, the former edging out the Ganapathy ward to the delight of the Satish camp. Satiish earlier led in Golden Vision who recorded a shock win in the Shivamogga Plate run over a sprint. The winner, advantageously placed in at the scales was piloted by Vinod Shinde who pushed his mount to the front soon after the field of eight runners came under the starter's flag and never let the initiative slip. The favourite Silver Dew  tracked the winner all through and despite Neeraj Rawal packing punch in the final furlong failed to collar the leader, who proved too hot to handle on this day. Galactical, who registered a hat-trick this season did well to finish third behind Silver Dew, while Schafenberg completed the frame.

The Prasanna Kumar schooled Sir Jersey proved too good in the opening event, the third division of the Mahi Plate for lowest rated horses run over a sprint. The winner confidently piloted by Antony Raj made every post a winning one, comfortably snuffing out the challenge of runner-up Altair at the top of the straight. Niche Hemp from Darius Byramji's yard finished on purposefully at end to take the third spot ahead of the topweighted Ultimate Striker. Baroness from Narayan Gowda's yard was withdrawn at the starting gates. Niche Hemp, it appears has regained form and fitness and it will not be long before the mare stands tall at the podium.

The second division of the event proved to be a cake-walk for the Pradeep Annaiah schooled Chisox, who donkey-licked his 11 rivals in the hands of apprentice jockey Alex Rozario. The winner stormed out of the gates to hit the front and soon established a good five-length lead before powering home by a widening margin of eight lengths. Chisox is in great heart and is set to provide an encore.

Phoenix Surprise finished second ahead of Lady Supremos, while Areca Angel made the frame without really extending herself. The first division was claimed by the strongly fancied favourite Devils Magic from Neil Devaney's yard. The winner in this mediocre set was head and shoulders above his 11 rivals taking into account that Devils Magic had impressed most in his final preparatory gallop. Jagadeesh confidently guided the even-money favourite, packing punch in the final furlong to assume command and quickly clinch the issue. Domina finished a creditable second ahead of Compliance and is one for the note book. Now that the winner has shed his maiden status, Devils Magic can repeat the effort in the weeks ahead.

The topweighted Katana from Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard was fancied most in the Bhima Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs but the public rage only chased the shadow of Candlelightqueen all the way to the post.  The promising young trainer Azhar Ali, who led in a couple of winners during the two-day Derby races is enjoying a good late run spoiling many a party, while sending out a strong message that he will make his mark if he manages to rope in a few new owners in his yard.
