LAST WISH WINS JUVENILE MILLION

By Ikram Khan | 05 Jun 2022 | BANGALORE

Trainer Neil B Devaney leading Last Wish (A Sandesh Up), winner of The DT Racing & Breeding LLP Juvenile Million (Gr.3)

After taking a lot of pink currency home on Saturday, punters readily brought it back and deposited it back in the big bags of bookmakers before taking a dejected long walk back home with a big hole in the pocket. Not a single public choice justified top billing in the seven-event card and a couple of strongly supported `Jodis' too went out of the window much to the chagrin of the punters stunned by the results. The Mumbai challenger Supernatural from trainer Pesi Shroff's yard and the Hyderabad mainhope Arcana from the stables of Vittal Deshmukh rightly topped the betting board in the plum event, the DT Racing & Breeding LLP Juvenile Million run over a distance of seven furlongs. The former on the strength of his two smashing victories, before he finished a satisfactory fourth in the Poonawalla Multi-Million, garnered the maximum support quoted at even-money, while Arcana was offered at (5/2).  The Mumbai hopeful struggled and only managed to gain the runner-up berth behind the local hero Last Wish from Neil Devaney's yard, while Arcana flopped badly and finished in the ruck. The loss of this `Jodi' hit the punters hard and a couple of questions started to do the rounds in the stands on the reversal of form in the case of Supernatural, who had beaten Last Wish by more than three lengths in their last head-to-head clash in Mumbai and the reason why was Arcana not allowed to go to the front when the speedy filly was crying to go ahead. Well improvement plays a decisive role and Last Wish appears to have improved most and this time out he was crossing swords with Supernatural on his home ground. Deshmukh will need to answer the valid question on Arcana who appeared to have lost interest and gave up after fighting and yet not being allowed to hit the front.

The Lokanath Gowda schooled All Attraction came up tops in the KN Guruswamy Memorial Cup run over a mile. Sadler's Legacy another Mumbai hopeful, who bit the dust was strongly fancied, but the overwhelming top fancy piloted by Yash Narredu was seen struggling to keep pace even before the 11-horse field negotiated the final curve and eventually finished a poor third behind the runner-up Prague. The top saddle artiste Akshay Kumar produced an exemplary effort on the winner, who appears to have improved most after his impressive effort behind Cyrenius in his maiden start in winter. Prague's noteworthy effort  only suggests that this Sulaiman ward will soon shed his maiden status. All Attraction is in fine nick and it will pay to follow him again when next saddled.

While All Attraction won handsomely, Cyrenius failed in his mission to register a hat-trick finishing a tame third in the Young Rajput Plate run over a mile. The topweight after being favourably placed at the top of the straight lacked the gas in the tank to make a race of it and much to the disappointment of his supporters finished a poor third behind the smart winner Star Comet and the runner-up Embosom. The winner from Ganapathy's yard had twice finished third behind Cyrenius in her last two efforts and this time out she made sure that she will stand tall at the podium while Cyrenius is pushed down to the third spot. Triumphant from Sulaiman's yard too had a fair share of followers in this event, but he appeared to have injured himself during the race and returned home lame.

The first two events saw winners romping home by more than 10 lengths. First it was the Darius Byramji schooled Divine Ray, who proved too good in the Endorsement Plate run over seven furlongs. Bramastram from trainer M R Singh's yard was fancied most, but the lesser fancied Divine Ray in the hands of Oliver Richard assumed command at the distance post and quickly put the race to bed in the final furlong much to the delight of his jockey. War Eagle did well to finish second ahead of Ultimate Power, who edged out Noble Ruler to gain place money. Divine Ray on the strength of this effort is certain to provide an encore.

Next it was Parvati Byramji, who led in Dragon's Gold, who simply trounced his eight rivals in the lower division of the Richelieu Plate. The moment Oliver Richard took Dragon's Gold to the front from an wide outside draw it was all over bar the shouting, The winner was sweetly fancied by the insiders and the right connections. And he literally toyed with all his rivals including the public choice In A Breeze who surprisingly was never in the hunt and even failed to make the frame, while Parvati's ward won by a widening margin of 14 lengths and is set to pick up a couple of more races this summer. Star Domination finished second ahead of Tyto Alba who was strongly fancied in place.

After a couple of below par efforts, The Strength who had finished a game third in his last effort came into his own in the Astounding Plate, producing a near-perfect effort in the hands of apprentice jockey Siddaraju to chalk out a long pending win. The winner hit the front at the top of the straight and kicked on gamely to score from last start winner Chul Bul Raani and Copper Sunrise. The favourite Chisox who was strongly fancied performed like a dud and it will be wise to ignore this Pradeep ward until he shows some spark in his next couple of starts.

Prince Abir from Sulaiman's yard and Own Legacy from the stables of Ganapathy were fancied most in the concluding event before a big flood of money at end saw Own Legacy close firm favourite. But the public choice failed to break level from the gates and with that lost all her chances. The fact that Own Legacy was struggling at the rear made the task of Prince Abir simple at end, the Sulaiman ward effortlessly cruising home to the delight of his supporters. Muirfield gained the runner-up spot ahead of Casey who surprised most gaining the third spot ahead of Aherne.
