Trainer R H Sequeira leading Smashing Blue (Akshay Kumar Up), winner of The Racing Patrons Trophy

Apart from the fact that the followers of form were satisfied with the results, the thunder of hooves on Saturday failed to generate the desired interest and excitement among the railbirds. The plum event, the Racing Patrons Trophy run over a sprint saw the Hyderabad challenger Smashing Blue from trainer R H Sequeira justify favouritism in splendid fashion. The speedy customer in the hands of leading pro Akshay Kumar tracked the leader Golden Oaks for most part of the journey before Akshay packed punch on the public choice approaching the distance post and the Sequeira ward responding gamely to her master's call produced a good turn of foot to quickly overhaul the front runner before putting the race to bed in the final furlong. Golden Oaks piloted by apprentice jockey Salman Khan held on to finish second ahead of Augustus Caesar, while Automatic completed the frame. The runner-up, who looked heavy at the paddock parade will prove to be a different proposition next time out, while the winner in fine nick is set to provide an encore.

The principal added attraction, the Admiral Henry John Rous Trophy run over nine furlongs saw the Sulaiman Attaollahi schooled Pissarro break the ice in the hands of top gun Trevor Patel. Pitted aganst three moderate rivals, this was the best chance to come good for Pissarro and he did that with a measure of comfort at end. Second in demand at the betting ring, Ladida from trainer Karthik Ganapathy's yard in her effort to outwit the rest, hit the front and set a decent pace all through the backstretch before the on-money favourite Pissarro moved uo to take command 300 metres from home before putting the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. For the record Ladida gained the runner-up spot ahead of Starry Wind while Silvarius performed like a dud.

The Irfan Ghatala schooled Kensington Court and Devils Magic from the stables of Neil Devaney garnered the maximum support in the Poonawalla Stud Plate run over a sprint. The former in the hands of the in-form pro Trevor Patel romped home in style, while Devils Magic partnered by Pradeep Chiouhan after being favourably placed at the top of the straight lacked the gas in the tank to make a race of it and eventually finished in the ruck much to the disappointment of her supporters, who had fancied her to record a hat-trick, taking into account her pleasing movements on the trial track. Kensington Court has vastly improved and she will pick up a couple more wins this season.

After the on-money favourite Ashwa Yudhvir was withdrawn in the Pendragon Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs, it was a very open affair, Silverita from Arjun's yard, Faraz Arshad-trained Belvedere and Mitsuro from the stables of Pradeep Annaiah staking claim for the two lakh winner's purse. Silverita, who looked the best in the paddock parade powerfully piloted by leading pro Sandesh came up trumps to help Arjun record a double. Belvedere, who had a benefit of a run attracted big support in the betting ring and topped the betting board. But the public choice despite Akshay Kumar producing his best found Silverita too hot to handle and had to rest content with the second spot. Lauterbrunnen finished third ahead of Mitsuro who raced in patches confirming that he is not at his best and is best left ignored.

Tiger Returns from the stables of Imtiaz Khan was fancied most in the concluding event, the Guindy Plate run over a sprint but all that the overwhelming favourite did was take large amount  of money down the drain finishing a poor fourth. The eight to one shot Acaster from Warren Singh's yard confidently piloted by Vivek proved too good bolting home in style, easily snuffing out the pillar to post effor of Anne Boleyn, who managed to keep her head in front to gain the runner-up berth ahead of Extraordinary who surprised most finishing a creditable third.

Earlier, one `Black' came up trumps, while another `Black' bit the dust. Black Whizz from M R Singh's yard proved too good in the opening event, the lower division of the Guindy Plate, while Black Eagle, who had impressed most in the morning trials failed to reproduce his eye catching morning efforts, finishing a poor fourth. Second in demand at the betting ring, Tranquilo to the delight of the Aggarwal camp shed his maiden status in emphatic fashion easily beating Rapidus. Queen Envied caught the eye while finishing third and is one for the notebook.
