By Ikram Khan | 02 Jul 2022 | BANGALORE

Trainr SS Attaollahi (deputizing for trainer K S V Prasad Raju) leading Ballerina (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Juvenile Sprinters Million (Gr.3)

The fact that Ballerina, who finished more than  five lengths behind O Hansini and three lengths behind Amreli in their last clash at Mysuru turned the book of form upside down in less than a month shocked the followers of form. The Hyderabad challenger from trainer Prasad Raju’s yard was freely quoted at (8/1), while Amreli was strongly fancied at even-money and O Hansini, the winner at Mysuru was available at (4/1). The winner hit the front soon after the relatively small field of six runners came under the starter’s flag for the Juvenile Sprinters’ Million and never let the initiative slip, kicking on gamely in the final furlong to peg  back the second  in demand at the betting ring Artemis Ignacia from Neil Darashah’s yard and O Hansini who finished on purposefully at end to take the third spot ahead of the public choice Amreli, who struggled all through the six furlongs trip before taking good amount of pink currency down the drain. The third victory of the speedy daughter of Sanus Per Aquam will provide a boost to the stock at the Kunigal Stud farm, looking for a new owner come October.

The principal added attraction, the Nawab M Arshad Ali Khan Memorial Cup was claimed by the favourite Taimur from Karthik Ganapathy’s yard. The winner who had disappointed most in his last essay after his impressive first start produced his best in the hands of Bhavani Singh to emerge a convincing winner, easily snuffing out the challenge of Sea Of Cortez. Automatic finished a game third while Truly Epic performed below par and only managed to complete the frame.

The topweighted Polished Girl chalked out her second straight success winning the Lady Gibraltar Plate run over a sprint in emphatic fashion. On the strength of her smashing debut victory, Polished Girl was backed to the exclusion of her seven rivals and the speedy daughter of Excellent Art justified the confidence of her supporters romping home with a measure of comfort. La Reina from Padmanabhan’s yard who initially was gracing the wrong end of the field warmed up late and did well to gain the runner-up berth ahead of Nikolina. It is clear that runner-up will relish long distance trips and it will pay to keep an eye on this Padmanabhan ward when she is tested over a mile and beyond.

Last start winner Altair garnered maximum support in the concluding event, the upper division of the Supervite Plate but the favourite met a tartar in Debonair from Faraz Arshad’s yard who successfully made every post a winning one in the hands of four kilo claimer Md.Aliyar. Lesser fancied Port Of Beauty managed to save money in place while another lesser fancied contestant Red Lucifer from Irfan Ghatala’s yard raced in patches and eventually finished a poor fourth.

The Vijay Singh schooled Success was the most impressive winner in the seven-event card. The three-year-old filly who had caught the eye while finishing fourth in her last essay over a distance of seven furlongs displayed her true potential over 10 furlongs,donkey-licking her seven rivals in the hands of Hindu Singh. Taking into account that the well-backed public choice won in resplendent style over the Derby distance, this Vijay Singh ward will start one of the fancied runners for the blue riband scheduled to be held on July 17. Seige Perilous finished second more than 10 lengths behind Success whilelast start winner Pissarro could only finish third.

Earlier, Ozark from trainer M R Singh’s yard piloted in copybook fashion by T S Jodha proved too good in the opening event, the lower division of the Supervite Plate run over a sprint. The winner was offered at (5/2), money pouring in on the Kishan Thomas schooled Beldona who was touted a `moral certainty’ but the heavily backed public choice failed to match strides with the winner who romped home a deserving winner to the delight of the M R Singh camp.

Fancied most on the strength of her consistently impressive performances in the morning trials, Inyouwebelieve from Prasanna Kumar’s yard in the hands of top gun Trevor Patel produced a gutsy effort to edge out the ten to one shot Tripitaka close home. Stormwatch finished a satisfactory third ahead of Stormy Ocean who will take a while to shed his maiden status considering the fact that he has not shown the desired improvement after his first essay.
