The management committee of the Madras Race Club (MRC) spearheaded by M A M R Muthiah did exceedingly well to complete the Ooty racing season at Guindy (Chennai). The Chennai racing buffs satisfied with the results revealed that a number of new owners have picked up decent stock from top farms and in the years ahead MRC will be a force to reckon with taking into account that the administrators of the game and the professionals at this centre are stretching every sinew to attain the set targets and goals in their endeavour to put MRC back in the big league.

The final day of the Ooty season produced a couple of shock results before three firm favourites helped the punters return home evens-stevens. The Bengaluru challenger Priceless Gold from Rajesh Narredu's yard confidently piloted by elder bro Suraj Narredu proved too good in the Nilgiris Gold Cup run over a mile. The on-money favourite who looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring readily justified the confidence of his supporters, assuming command at the distance post before putting the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Historian gained the runner-up berth ahead of the topweighted My Opinion who performed below par.

Earlier the two cousins, Deepesh and Yash Narredu stole the limelight, combining well to strike it rich in the final plum of the season, the Ooty Juvenile Sprint Trophy. Astride the Deepesh schooled Star Romance, Yash produced a neat effort to peg back the belated bid of the even-money favourite Andorra from James McKeown's yard. The runner-up piloted by leading saddle artiste Sandesh took time to get into top gear and this helped Yash and Star Romance to steal a march and gallantly last out to spare a `neck' to the public choice, who in defeat was not disgraced and lives to fight another day. Berrettini managed to save money in place, while smart last start winner Kay shot his bolt at the top of the straight and eventually finished in the ruck.

Despite the fact that Current View from Sebastian's yard had the best credentials to score in the opening event, the Star Of Gwalior Handicap, it was Kings Walk who garnered the maximum support in the betting ring. But the B Suresh schooled youngster failed to produce a winning gallop and only managed to finish third behind Maranello. Current View was the pick on form and form played true to the delight of Sebastian camp who collected a lot of pink currency, the winner offered at nourishing odds of (5/1).

Next, Night Hunt from Ramanathan's yard on the strength of his suggestive effort, third behind the in-form Anastasia was fancied most in the Nasrullah Handicap run over a sprint. The fact that the promising apprentice Saqlain who is enjoying a dream run was listed to partner the favourite doubled the confidence of the big bettors. Money came pouring in on the topweight who performed below par and failed to save even money in place. The eight to one shot Oui Sauvage from Adhiraj Jodha's yard piloted by Shrikant Kamble made every post a winning one, sprinting clear to emerge a deserving winner. Ayur Shakthi surprised most gaining the second spot ahead of Priceless Ruler, while Grandiose finished in the first four frame.

A facile last start winner, Lakshanam piloted in copybook fashion by Yash recorded her second straight victory. The public choice on top of her game produced a winning gallop in the final furlong to snuff out the challenge of Dark Son close home in the Ardent Knight Handicap run over a distance of seven furlongs. Ignorance Of Bliss finished a creditable third while Tudor who had his fair share of supporters was never really in the hunt.

The McKeown camp who had lost out big on Andorra recouped a major portion of their losses on Cape Wickham. The winner who had consistently produced heartwarming performances on the trial track produced a sparkling gallop in the hands of leading pro Sandesh to romp home in emphatic fashion. Zaneta finished second while Safety who had won her last start before losing out in the Stewards room failed to display her true potential, her pilot Sai Kumar lacking the willingness and the required enterprise to make a race of it.
