CLASSY RAVISHING FORM ENTERS HALL OF FAME
By Ikram Khan | 07 Oct 2022 | MYSORE
Trainer Parvati Byramji leading Ravishing Form (P Trevor up), winner of The Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club Mysore 2000 Guineas (Gr.3)
After his record breaking effort in his last essay over a mile, champion colt Ravishing Form uncorked another champagne effort, winning the second classic of the season, the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club Mysore 2000 Guineas in resplendent style. And it was time for song and dance in the Parvati Byramji camp. The star performer piloted by the top `Knight' Trevor Patel, who had partnered him in his earlier sterling exercise at this centre, produced another sublime performance to add another classic to his distinguished list, while Parvati enjoyed every bit of action in the classic mile long journey and cherished the moment her champion colt flashed past the post first in the big classic test. The flamboyant trainer after Ravishing Form's two Hall Of Fame efforts at this centre, it is needless to mention would love to take a big piece of the Mysore track home. This was Parvati's second classic success after she led in Gift Of Grace In the Indian 1000 Guineas and all credit to the dynamic lady, who sent Ravishing Form spot on for the classic event after his stupendous effort last month.
After the six top colts came under the starter's flag for the classic mile long journey, Trevor chose to track the leader Last Wish for most part of the trip before he streaked ahead at the top of the straight and then put the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Though the runner-up Once You Go Black from James McKeown's yard partnered by Suraj Narredu was seen finishing on strongly, it was clear that the bird had flown nice and true to join the classic list. Arguably the best in the business, Trevor Patel produced a splendid effort making all the right moves at the right time and that brought home the desired result. The Irfan Ghatala schooled Sucre, who garnered the maximum support despite the fact that he in his second start was up against a record breaking colt and another classic hopeful who to his credit has three wins, found the going tough and finished last. Taking into account that Parvati's pride and joy is on top of his game, Once You Black in defeat was not disgraced and lives to fight another day and the Deccan Derby winner Salento are likely to meet up in the blue riband of the season, the Mysore Derby on the last Sunday of October, the mega event is certain to generate maximum interest among the pros and railbirds at this centre.
Trevor earlier partnered the on-money favourite Caracas from trainer Dominic's yard to a facile victory in the principal added attraction, the Justice P Medapa Memorial Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. A model of consistency, Caracas who had finished runner-up thrice and third once from his four starts in the Bangalore summer season went one better, standing tall at the winners' enclosure after romping home without a sweat. The second in demand at the betting ring, Peyo finished second ahead of Rising Sun who is likely to earn his cornbill in the weeks ahead.
The Sharath Kumar-trained Capable was another hot fancy, who justified the confidence of her supporters in emphatic fashion. The most sought after apprentice Saqlain produced another copybook effort on the winner, stealing a march at the distance post and putting the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Southern Power from Faraz Arshad's effort expectedly gained the runner-up berth ahead of Tyto Alba while Ceffina completed the frame. The winner appears in good nick and is set to provide an encore if her connections judiciously place her in her next exercise.
Saqlain who had it easy on Capable, earlier worked hard to help Unique Style from Lokanath Gowda's yard register a long over due win in the lower division of the Spectacular Quest Plate run over a sprint. The winner was quietly fancied most by the followers of form and to their delight the Lokanath ward produced a winning gallop at the all-important end to edge out Archway and Altair, who was seen finishing on fastest at end. The Sharath ward took time to get into top gear and that cost Altair dear at end. Archway will benefit most from this run under his belt and will prove to be a different proposition next time out. In the first division of the event, Star Admiral from Aravind Ganapathy's yard started the favourite before money came pouring in on the Rakesh schooled Indian Patriot and the well-backed contestant produced a sparkling gallop in the hands of leading pro Srinath to romp home in effortless style. Indian Patriot is in rousing form and it will pay to follow this Rakesh ward till he gets beat. Star Admiral, it is clear found Indian Patriot too hot to handle but up against moderate opposition this Aravind trainee is certain to make his presence felt.
The third division of the event saw the even-money favourite Perfect Justice from Girinath's yard win the race in the Stewards room after losing to the second in demand at the betting ring, Stars Above from Arjun Manglorkar's yard. Kiran Rai astride Perfect Justice protested against winner Stars Above piloted by Antony Raj for taking him out in the final furlong and cutting across in the last 100 metres. The objection to the delight of the favourite punters was upheld. But according to most knowledgeable and many old hats in the game including some professionals, it was not `Perfect Justice'. They pointed out that though Stars Above shifted out he didn't touch or interfere with the progress of Perfect Justice who could not overtake the winner. The fact that Kiran Rai chose to shift in realising that his mount was unable to get past the winner and claim that the winner cut across Perfect Justice paid off, the stipes and stewards happily reversing the verdict. It is clear from this case that Mysore Race Club needs to get a couple of good stipes under their wings and they should address this issue on war footing.
Adela from Warren Singh's yard was fancied most in the opening event, the Yadavgiri Plate run over a mile. But the overwhelming favourite found the lesser fancied Southernaristocrat too hot to handle. News Maker finished third ahead of Osibisa who never was in the hunt. Lucky Chance floored the followers of form in the next event, making every post a winning one in the hands of four-kilo claimer Darshan Antony. The speedy winner from Vishal Yadav's yard is in great heart and it will pay to follow him again in his next start.
