Trainer N Ravinder Singh leading Makhtoob (B Nikhil Up), winner of The Mir Mushtaq Ali Khan Memorial Cup

Makhtoob from the yards of Ravinder Singh finally found his mark when recording an upset win to lift the Mir Mushtaq Ali Khan Memorial Cup. The aged gelding raced close to the leaders on this occasion and galloped resolutely in the straight to wear down the favourite in the last furlong. Suraj Narredu ridden Arabian Queen had earlier taken charge about two furlongs from home but found the going tough after travelling some distance. Jockey B Nikhil drove l Makhtoob (Speaking Of Which - Adara) vigorously to win comfortably from Royal Grace who ran leisurely this to take the runner up berth. N R I Sun, who graced the wrong end of the field till entering the home stretch, flew towards the end to finish close on the haunches of Royal Grace with Sun Dancer a short head away.

Srinivas Reddy trained and Suraj Narredu piloted The Akhanda flopped once again. Drd and Kingston moved in tandem at the turn to overhaul leader Silk, who had shot her bolt till then. K Satheesh groomed and apprentice RS Jodha steered Kingston (Corporate Jungle - Frizbee) raised a fluent gallop for a change and assumed command. Kancha, who found himself trailing the field, devoured good ground as the race progressed and came the shortest way home. Kancha's brilliant run however failed to stop Kingston's from hitting the winning line. Kancha fell short by half length and had Shazaam, who also finished on fast, a short head behind.

Suraj was successful astride Humanitarian (Roderic O'Connor - Placervilles Glory), who shed the maiden ranks over the mile long Sikandar E Azam Plate. The withdrawal of Romero and Soorya Vahan, both last outing winners, made the task of trainer Laxman Singh's a lot easier. Humanitarian and Path Of Peace chased Challenger whose saddle had probably slipped and apprentice RS Jodha just managing to avoid from being dislodged. Halfway through the journey, Suraj changed gears and cruised past Challenger. The filly established an unassailable lead and romped home ahead of Path Of Peace and Hugh Capet. The rest ended far behind.

Jockey Akshay Kumar, who was going through a clean patch, partnered three winners to the delight of his fans. He started the day on a winning note with Desert Sultan (Black Cash - Desert Wings). Resurgence made the initial running before making way in the home stretch for My Master and Wind Sprite to dispute the lead. Both horses drifted under pressure and found favourite Acrobat and Desert Sultan flashing on to the scene. In a thrilling finish that unfolded, Akshay powered Sk Waseem Ahmed trained Desert Sultan to pip Acrobat in virtually the last stride. My Master and Wind Sprite followed them home with Good Day ending a game fifth.

Akshay then partnered SSF Hassan saddled Ok Boss to a start to finish victory in the upper division of the Nizamabad Plate. He eased Ok Boss (Green Coast - Make Your Day) into the lead as the gates opened and didn't let the advantage slip away till the end. Precious Gift warmed up late to her task and ended a good second. Hoping Cloud showed some zest for racing as she ran on to finish an encouraging third ahead of Ivanhoe, who ran tamely.

PS Jubbal schooled Horse O'War was backed to the exclusion of his rivals in the last race and the favourite duly obliged the punters. Entrusted into the strong hands of Akshay now, Horse O'War ran in close attendance of Space Time and Sound Echo till the heads turned for home. The on-money went surging into the lead when asked for an effort by Akshay and the race was all over bar the shouting. Ayur Tej, First In Line, Reining Queen and Paree finished in a huddle behind in that order.
