Before the song and dance at the Derby ball on the eve of the blue riband, good number of fancied horses to the delight of the railbirds gained entry into the winners' circle and as a result one noticed a spring in the feet of the racing buffs on the D-day. The second in demand at the betting ring, Siege Perilous from champion Bengaluru trainer Prasanna Kumar reigned supreme in the plum event, the Mysore Race Club Anniversary Cup on Saturday. The winner piloted by Antony Raj registered a fine hat-trick and is set to maintain his winning streak in the forthcoming Bangalore winter season. Stablemate Knotty Dancer was the top fancy in this prestigious event run over a distance of seven furlongs, but the public choice performed below par and that made the task of Seige Perilous easy at end. The consistent Chashni from top Mysore pro Rakesh gained the runner-up berth ahead of Automatic, while the favourite Knotty Dancer only managed to stay in the frame.

The Padmanabhan schooled Adjustment appears a goodtype of youngster who is certain to make his presence felt against the best in the months ahead. Back after a setback in training the bred in the purple colt detonated a creditable field of dozen runners making an appearance after a five-month long lay-off and the manner in which he obtained the desired result in the Gayatri Devi Memorial Trophy, clearly suggests that Adjustment has the ability and class to make a mark in the tougher tests ahead. The four to one shot Heroism from Monnappa's yard reigned supreme in the Bottolonda Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. The winner piloted in copybook fashion by Rahul assumed command at the distance post before gallantly pegging back the belated effort of Amazonia piloted by leading pro Akshay Kumar. Rhythmic who had streaked ahead at the top of the straight and posed like a winner quickly ran out of gas in the final furlong and had to rest content with the third spot.

John Connor was fancied most in the concluding event, the lower division of the Sharan Lakshmanan Memorial Trophy. The M R Singh ward partnered by Vivek met a tartar in Lightning Charlie who posted his second successive victory in the hands of apprentice jockey Shreyas Singh. The in-form Pradeep Annaiah ward is in fine form and is set to complete a hat-trick of wins, when saddled next. NRI Level did well to gain the third place ahead of Dallas Drifter who was strongly fancied in place.

Earlier, the public rage Kensington had it easy in the H P Viswanathan Memorial Trophy run over a distance of 2000 metres. The winner from leading pro Arjun Manglorkar's yard  while providing Antony Raj an arm-chair ride to success sent out a strong message loud and clear that he will be a force to reckon with in his class and category at his parent-centre (Bengaluru) come November. Mysuru mainhope Crescendo followed the winner, while last start winner Capable finished third ahead of Garrison.

Douglas, who let down large following in his last essay surprised most followers of form, coming up trumps in the R M Puttanna Memorial Trophy run over a mile. The winner piloted in fine style by leading pro Srinath, seized the initiative at the top of the straight and finished on gamely to peg back Loch Lomond from McKeown's yard. The heavily supported Mirra from Arjun Manglorkar's yard disappointed again and is best left alone until she regains her galloping shoes in the months ahead.

The Darius Byramji schooled Worldly Wise and Star Comet from the stables of Ganapathy were fancied most in the upper division of the Sri Sashachalam  Memorial Trophy run over a mile before the former ended on top of the betting board minutes before the start. But to the delight of the bookies the `Jodi' went out of the window. It was the lesser fancied Twilight Tornado who came out on top in the hands of apprentice jockey Salman Khan. The winner established a long lead at the top of the straight and then kicked on resolutely to peg back the belated effort of Star Comet. Worldly Wise was never in the hunt and so too Coyote Girl, both finishing down the field. The upper division of the event was claimed by the well fancied Sharath Kumar trainee Eco Friedly who produced a sparkling gallop at the distance post to romp home a convincing winner. Break Away finished a game second ahead of Coorg General. The runner-up appears to have improved and it will pay to follow him in the Mysore winter season.

Aravind Ganapathy schooled Pastiche emerged a deserving winner in the lower division of the Sharan Lakshmanan Memorial Trophy. The winner, who rightly opened favourite in the bookmakers ring drifted out from (2/1) to (4/1), money pouring in on the Tejaswi schooled Venezuela. The strongly backed favourite piloted by Dhanu Singh Deora found the first two too hot to handle and finished a tame third. Darshan produced a neat effort on the winner who at end spared a `neck' to Chisox ridden by the most sought after new kid on the block, Saqlain.
