MORISET WINS GREENLANDS MILLION

By Ikram Khan | 02 Dec 2022 | CHENNAI

Mr Gurpal Singh & trainer B Suresh leading Moriset (Neeraj Rawal Up), winner of The Vikram Greenlands Million

After Speculation made a smashing debut on Thursday, leading trainer B Suresh won the first million of the season for juveniles through another good youngster from his yard. Moriset had consistently produced pleasing performances on the trial track before his impressive final preparatory gallop. Most old hats in the game impressed by his work-outs and the fact that he looked the best in the parade ring spread the good word that this youngster will be hard to down. Punters quickly stormed the bookies ring and slammed the Suresh ward, who at end was on top of the betting board, ahead of the two other fancied juveniles, Bertha and Something Royal from the stables of Sebastian.
Leading pro Neeraj Rawal astride the public choice hit the front soon after the six juveniles came under the starter's flag and the well-supported Moriset making his maiden appearance, to the delight of the railbirds sprinted home in style. Suresh, it is needless to mention was immensely pleased with the performance of Moriset, an early bird from his yard who picked up the big worm. Bertha gained the runner-up berth ahead of Celeste, while Something Royal, who failed to keep pace early on in the 1000 metres dash finished in the ruck.

We told you that it will pay to support facile last start winner Eagle Bluff again after his astounding effort nine days ago. Well he made us all proud, winning the Mariana Express Lines Trophy run over a mile without unduly being extended and the in-form five-year-old from Anil Kumar's yard owned by Cheriyan Abraham on the strength of this effort is certain to complete a hat-trick of wins when saddled next. Speed Air finished second ahead of Ganton, who threatened to beat the public choice in the final furlong, before M S Deora guiding the fortunes of Eagle Bluff packed punch and the `eagle' flew home in style.

The public rage Star Romance from Deepesh Narredu's yard justified his top ranking, winning the Ministerial Handicap run over a sprint. The short-priced favourite (30/100) was expected to canter home, but that didn't happen and Yash needed to stretch every sinew to peg back the gallant effort of Berrettini, who impressed most and will be hard to down in his next start. Empress Eternal from Robert Foley's yard, who was strongly fancied in place did well to finish third, while Ginsburg completed the frame.

After his gritty exercise on Star Romance, Yash again needed to produce his best to help Spectacle spare a `neck' to the favourite Dear Lady from James McKeown's yard who flashed late on the scene. The runner-up could well have gained the day had Neeraj Rawal alerted her a shade early in the sprint event, but you cannot take away credit from the Deepesh schooled Spectacle who travelled all through the trip, nice and easy and held on gamely to earn his winning bracket. Lebua too produced a fair effort, finishing third and is one for the note book.

Star Lap from Adhirajsingh Jodha's yard garnered the maximum support in the concluding event, the lower division of the Amazing Bay Handicap run over a distance of six furlongs. And the public choice readily justified favouritism in the hands of the experienced Dashrath Singh. Santamarina Star from the stables of Ramanathan followed the winner home, while the second in demand at the betting ring, Magic Moment, stablemate of the winner finished third ahead of Sinatra. The topweighted Hawk Of The Wind. from the stables of Deepesh Narredu was withdrawn in this event.

Earlier, the 10 to one long shot Fantastic Hit stunned the followers of form in the opening event, the Amalfi Coast Handicap run over a distance of 1100 metres. The winner who graced the wrong end of the field in the first couple of furlongs, gradually improved before unleashing a tremendous turn of foot in the final furlong to floor the punters who had fancied the Uthaiah schooled Icy River to score in this moderate set. The favourite raced in patches and only managed to finish third behind the lesser fancied Haran from Parmar's yard. The runner-up, it appears has regained form and fitness and it will not be long before he earns his cornbill.

The well-backed Vulcanic was one other from Adhirajsingh Jodha's yard, who edged out the top fancy Lady Luck by the shortest of margins in the Littleover Handicap run over a mile. The winner ably piloted by Shrikant Kamble produced a sparkling gallop in the final furlong to gain the day at the shadow of the winning post. Lady Luck, in defeat was not disgraced and lives to fight another day.
