SHAMROCK WINS WOLF777 BANGALORE 2000 GUINEAS

By Ikram Khan | 17 Dec 2022 | BANGALORE

Mr Daulat Chhabria, Mr K Kaliyaperumal and trainer S Narredu leading Shamrock (Suraj Narredu up), winner of the Wolf 777 Bangalore 2000 Guineas (Gr.2)

Form played true on the classic day and the punters loved it. They enjoyed the winning run under the winter sun and after the public rage Splendido romped home in the concluding event, one could notice a spring in the step of the railbirds, happily returning home after successfully raiding the bookmakers ring and carrying good amount of pink currency home.

Star performer Shamrock certainly was the toast of the day. The on-money favourite in the second classic of the season, the Wolf 777 Bangalore 2000 Guineas, proved too good for his seven rivals in the mile long classic journey and all credit to trainer Satish Narredu for sending out Shamrock spot on for the big event. The winner looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring before he produced his best in the hands of leading pro Suraj to register his maiden classic success. A confident Suraj produced a top draw effort on the winner, settling a rather keen and fresh Shamrock early in the front group before he packed punch and quickly put the classic race to bed in the final furlong. Second in demand at the betting ring, Chennai raider King Louis expectedly finished second behind the winner, while Last Wish took the third spot ahead of Disruptor. Shamrock, it must be mentioned is in rousing form and is likely to maintain his winning streak in his next big test.

The Narredus apart, leading trainer Padmanabhan combined effectively with top saddle artiste Sandesh to provide the big bettors a reason to smile. Three strongly fancied winners, Isnt She Beautiful, Turkoman and Splendido from his yard bolted in to the delight of the many hardcore double and treble punters who made a killing simply following the three leading contestants from his stable.

Isnt She Beautiful set the ball rolling for the master trainer, pulling the plug and detonating her dozen rivals in the opening event, the lower division of the Sir Charles Todhunter Memorial Trophy. The speedy filly making her maiden appearance hit the front soon after the start and donkey-licked the opposition without really raising a sweat. The winner, it is needless to mention will make her presence felt in higher category and it will pay to support her till she is beaten. Oxytocin from Azhar Ali's yard gained the runner-up berth ahead of The King NI, while Ultimate Chance completed the frame. The upper division of the event produced a shock result, the ten to one long shot The Response from trainer Sharath Kumar's yard flooring his more fancied rivals in fine style. Sai Kiran astride the winner played the waiting game, content to stick in the rear as the two front runners Forty Niner piloted by apprentice Tousif Khan and Kiran Rai partnering the topweight Lauterbrunnen cut each other's throat in the front in the 1100M dash. Sai Kiran setalight The Response when Forty Niner shot his bolt and retired at the top of the straight and quickly put the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Last start winner Tripitaka gained the runner-up berth ahead of Lauterbrunnen who gamely held on to save money in place.

The topweighted Turkoman was backed to the exclusion of his five rivals in the Sutlej Plate run over a distance of nine furlongs and the miserly quoted (55/100) public rage provided Sandesh another arm-chair ride to victory. Two good results provided the punters the confidence required to follow the favourites and the public choices, bar Prague helped punters post credit entries in their balance sheet.

In line for a treble, Padmanabhan and Sandesh had it easy again on Splendido in the concluding event, the short-priced favourite making every post a winning one in the  December Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The second in demand at the betting ring, Always Happy from Prasanna Kumar's yard followed the winner home, while El Alamein from Faraz Arshad's stable edged out Dr Logan to snatch the third place at the shadow of the winning post. El Alamein in fact was not favourably placed at the top of the straight, but covered good ground towards the rails to pick up money in place. And on the strength of this performance.the debutant owned by former trainer Hidayat Khan is likely to earn his winning bracket in the weeks ahead.

The Sulaiman Attaollahi schooled Prague, who so far has failed to shed his maiden status despite the fact that he has produced a couple of good performances against higher rated rivals again failed in his attempt to earn a winning bracket. The bred in the purple colt competing in the D M Shivaswamy Memorial Trophy run over a mile met a tartar in the lesser fancied Douglas brilliantly piloted by leading saddle artiste Srinath, who stretched every sinew in a ding-dong battle to gain the verdict at end. Douglas surprisingly was offered at (5/1) in the betting ring despite the fact that the Neil Devaney ward had beaten Mirra, close third in the 1000 Guineas on Friday, over an identical.distance in his last essay in Mysore.

The hotly tipped Del Mar brought the smile back on the face of trainer Pradeep Annaiah who hit a road-block on Friday, three well supported runners from his yard, Air Blast, Ascoval and Rightly Noble failing to justify major support. Leading pro Pradeep Chouhan produced a copybook effort on Del Mar who proved too good to his nine rivals and is set to provide an encore. Skyfire did well to gain the runner-up berth ahead of Fernet Branca.
