REMEDIESOFSPRING WINS SOUTH INDIA 1000 GUINEAS

By Ikram Khan | 24 Dec 2022 | CHENNAI

Trainer J Sebastian leading Remediesofspring (Yash Narredu Up), winner of The South India 1000 Guineas (Gr.2)

The talented Yash Narredu stole the limelight recording a grand treble including his victory on the gutsy local filly, Remediesofspring, in the first classic of the season, the South India 1000 Guineas. The winner offered at (15/1) had no takers, money pouring in on the top Bengaluru challenger Polished Girl piloted by his cousin Suraj Narredu. The even-money favourite at one stage looked set to whizz past Remediesofspring approaching the final furlong, but the moment the Sebastian ward dug deep into her reserves and rallied to make a race of it, the paint and polish from the face of the favourite `Girl' evaporated and Remediesofspring and Yash kicked on to win the fillies classic in convincing fashion. Another Bengaluru hopeful Place Vendome from Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard finished third behind Polished Girl, while the Hyderabad hopeful Mysterious Angel from Deshmukh's yard, who recorded a treble at Malakpet on Christmas eve completed the frame. The classic success proved to be the icing on cake, the in-form Yash Narredu having earlier booted home the two well-backed public choices, Spectacle and Forever, both from brother Deepesh Narredu's yard.

Astride, the overwhelming favourite Spectacle, Yash produced a power-packed effort, driving home the public choice in the final furlong to edge out the two rankoutsiders Hallucinate and Senora Bianca, who in her attempt to make every post a winning one lacked the gas in the tank to stay in front in the final furlong and eventually finished a game third behind the noteworthy runner-up Hallucinate.

Next guiding the fortunes of Forever, who recorded her second straight success, Yash didn't really need to work up sweat, the public choice proving too good for her 10 rivals while romping home by a margin of five lengths. Sweet Fragrance in the hands of apprentice M S Deora surprised most gaining the runner-up berth ahead of Wellington piloted by Chotu Singh Jodha. The winner is in rousing form and is certain to complete a hat-trick of wins when saddled next.

The Vishesh-trained Break The Silence and Oberon from the stables of Fahad Khan flashed past the post locked-together in the opening event, the Squanderer Handicap before the `magic-eye' nodded in favour of the Vishesh ward piloted by apprentice Rozario.  Star Fling finished a game third, while the favourite Winning Legacy from Adhirajsingh Jodha's yard failed to display her true potential and finished in the ruck.

Preakness from Deepesh Narredu's yard partnered by brother Yash was nominated as a good bet in the Royal Tern Handicap run over a sprint, but all that the the on-money did was to take a lot of good money down the drain failing to match strides with the five to one shot Dun It Again who helped Vishesh register back-to-back wins on the classic day. A confident Angad partnered the smart winner, who is set to provide an encore like Break The Silence did in the opening event. Admiral Shaw finished third ahead of Empress Royal, who appears to have improved and is likely to earn her winning bracket in the weeks ahead.

The on-money favourite Time And Tide, who looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring brought the smile back on the face of Adhirajsingh Jodha comfortably cantering home in the Sardar K B Ramchandraraj Urs Memorial Trophy run over a sprint. The youngster appears a goodtype and more will be heard of Time And Tide in time to come. Swarga finished  second ahead of I Want It All from Anil Kumar's yard, while Multiwave, it appears needs a lot of time and space to make an impression in juvenile company.

The lesser fancied Royal Monarch from Robert Foley's yard proved too good in the upper division of the Track Lightning Handicap run over a distance of seven furlongs. The winner sent to the front by promising apprentice Sah Farid Ansari established a long lead before negotiating the final curve and then kicked on gamely to romp home a deserving winner. Dancing Grace finished second ahead of Turf Beauty, while the hotly tipped Raisina from Jodha's yard and Wisaka fancied strongly in place failed in their mission to justify the confidence and support of their followers.

Sebastian schooled Safety garnered the maximum support, most old hats in the game favouring her to enter the winners' circle after a couple of below par efforts. But she again failed to make an impression and finished a poor sixth behind the second in demand at the betting ring, Wonderful who also performed like a dud. The 15 to one shot Sheer Elegance in the hands of Mumbai -based pro Amit made every post a winning one pegging back the three to one shot Shez R Star piloted by apprentice boy Darshan Antony. Amber Lightning did well to take the third spot ahead of Black Label. Amber Lightning has improved most and it will pay to support this Robert Foley ward when next saddled.
