Trainer Warren Singh leading Shubankar (Akshay Kumar Up), winner of The J B Mallaradhya Memorial Trophy

It was good to see the old war horse Warren Singh leading in two well fancied winners and John share the professional honours with the veteran on a day form played true and most fancied contestants accomplished their mission. After the well supported Sea Blush from his yard proved too good in the lower division of the Mahadayi Plate, the grey Shubankar made Warren proud winning the J B Mallaradhya Memorial Trophy, the feature event run over a mile.
Sea Blush and Art Power from Padmanabhan's yard opened joint favourites before big money came pouring in on Sea Blush, hammered down from (5/2) to (6/4) in the betting ring, while Art Power lacked the money power and drifted out to (3/1) after opening at (6/4). Second behind Eco Friendly in a thriller over a mile, Sea Blush looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring and in the hands of leading pro Srinath powered home to the delight of the Warren camp. Stunning Beauty gained the runner-up berth ahead of Art Power, while Baroness only managed to complete the frame.
The upper division of the Mahadayi Plate was claimed by the five to one shot Augusto in a thrilling finish from Classic Charm. The winner piloted by Arshad Alam produced an astounding gallop in the final furlong to collar Classic Charm close home. The well supported Lycurgus from Sharath Kumar's yard managed to save money in place finishing third ahead of Super Ruffian who certainly would have added pep to the finish had he received better saddle assistance.

Second in demand at the betting ring after garnering good support minutes before the start of the plum event Shubankar in his customary front running role hit the front in the hands of the chote nawab Akshay Kumar and stayed there right till the very end, easily pegging back the challenge of the favourite Etosha from Neil Darashah's yard partnered by the most sought after apprentice Likith Appu. Akshay produced a power-packed performance on the winner and this helped Warren record a good popular double after a long long time. Ruling Goddess from Sulaiman's yard again disappointed finishing a tame third ahead of Four Wheel Drive.

Sulaiman earlier led in Galahad, the winner of the Cordon Bleu Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. Top gun Trevor Patel guiding the fortunes of the grey making his second appearance after finishing fourth behind the winner Cat Whiskers in his debut, hit the front and soon sprinted clear of the second in demand at the betting ring, Mazal Tov to enter the winners' circle in style. Momentous from Rajesh Narredu's yard caught the eye while finishing a suggestive third ahead of Prana who also had a fair share of supporters who dejectedly walked back home after making big investments on the Kishan Thomas young trainee.

In the concluding event, the upper division of the Hooghly Plate run over a sprint, Cash Out from Pradeep Annaiah's yard on the strength of his second behind Alaskan Jewel opened the favourite before Narayana Gowda's connections went bang-bang on Sacred Creator, backed down from a fancy price to top the betting board, quoted at (2/1) at end. But the heavily backed course favourite failed to make an impression and all that the five-year-old mare did was take a lot of good money down the drain. The topweighted Air Display from Inayathullah's yard confidently piloted by apprentice Rozario reigned supreme, while Cash Out followed the winner home.
In the lower division, Sharath Kumar brought off a successful coup on Master Of Success who was touted a good and safe bet in this mediocre set. And Master Of Success   emerged the real master edging out Max Mueller and the old at tooth Estella from Mohd. Khan's stable.

After the success of Master of Success, another runner from Sharath's yard, Oxytocin who had caught the eye while finishing an impressive second behind the classy Isnt She Beautiful in her last start opened on-money favourite in the upper division of the Murudeshwara Plate run over a sprint. But soon Princess Jasmine from Lokanath's stable was a rage in the betting ring, shot down from (5/2) to an unbelievable (60/100), while Oxytocin who had opened at (80/100) had no takers at (7/2). Well to the delight of the bookmakers, the `Jodi' quickly went out of the window and it was the topweighted Stars Above from Arjun Manglorkar's yard who gained the day beating Oxytocin, while the `Princess' finished a tame fourth much to the chagrin of her large following.
Isnt She Beautiful expectedly proved too good in the upper division of the event. The talented filly has won both her starts in splendid fashion and a hat-trick is at her mercy when she makes her third appearance in the weeks ahead. Archway followed the special filly home and it will not be long before this Arjun ward gets into the winners' circle.

A facile last start winner, Balor from Darius Byramji's yard and the Irfan Ghatala schooled Opus One garnered the maximum support in the Kallathigiri Falls Plate. And in the hands of John it was Balor who registered his second straight success much to the delight of his young and smiling owner Gautam Maini. The lesser fancied Ripples N Storm partnered by Akshay Kumar gained the runner-up berth ahead of Armory who was strongly fancied in place, while Opus One failed to make the board.
