Silver Tern finally earns a bracket

Silver Tern (D.K.Ashish up) winner of the Gen.Obaidullah Khan Trophy being led in by trainer Mr.I.A.Sait

Not many racegoers who saw Silver Tern jump awkwardly from the gates and swerve to his left and take Canny Lad out with him would've given these two a chance to finish on the top in the 2400-metre Gen.Obaidullah Khan Trophy. But that was the way it turned out to be. Canny Lad refused to be bogged down and soon overtook the crawlers ahead of him. As the field of five headed by Malesh Narredu driven Canny Lad was strung out, Silver Tern just about recovered to be in touch with the rest. At the final turn Simply Gorgeous tried unsuccessfully to intimidate Canny Lad whilst Flying Rani searched for a clear run. Canny Lad ran unruffled as Simply Gorgeous was going nowhere but had effectively blocked Flying Rani. Here apprentice D. K. Ashish decided to make his move and the Imtiaz Sait saddled Silver Tern (Alnasr Alwasheek-Sprucing Up) came with raking strides to knock off Canny Lad from the leader's position. When the horses returned to the paddock, Dallas Todywalla was livid with Harish for unnecessarily getting hemmed up towards the rails and messing up with his mount in the process. Malesh was successful in booting a couple of winners for trainer Magansingh Jodha. Haifa Victory (Hymn-Panchelitta) made a belated debut but it was worth the wait. Malesh took no chances with the debutant when taking the bay gelding to the front and finding that his decision had paid off as the other runners were reduced to simply chasing the victor's shadow. Incroyable's odds went berserk in the ring and not surprisingly the Narendra Lagad saddled ante post favourite ran like a dud. Pampered Princess (Hymn-Swift Foot) gave Malesh another easy ride to victory and was never headed by any of her rivals in the Rao Saheb D. K. Parker Trophy. Cosmic Flower kept her consistency of being in the judges' frame intact while Star O'War improved on his last run to end third. Innovator ran disappointingly. Niall McCullagh once again went home empty-handed much to the chagrin of his die-hard fan following. They didn't expect much from Crown Jewel but were surely disappointed with the failure astride Victor and Wall Street. It was untypical of Niall to get pocketed between two horses in the both the races. Star Queen first slammed the doors on Victor's chances by cramping him for room as Amberley was calling the shots. The C. D. Katrak trained filly then zoomed into the lead and did not relinquish it till the end. Niall found himself in a spot of bother once again when Schubert ranged along side Wall Street. But that was just one specific factor among the host of other unspecified causes that contributed to the defeats of loss of both Victor and Wall Street. Nonetheless, it was neither Schubert nor Orlando Bloom which benefited from Wall Street's collapse. It was the Hosidar Daji trained rank outsider Simply Smashing (Warrshan-Romona), which ran true to her name and stunned the fancied horses. There were three other winners apart from Haifa Victory and Pampered Princess who adopted the pillar-to-post route successfully. Dazzling Skill (Razeen-Anagram), sent out by S. Ganapathy, overcame the initial resistance of Sparta and ran untroubled thereafter in the lower division of the Arctic Light Plate. Supreme Attraction ended runner-up while Sparta faded out to finish third. The Arti Doctor trained debutant filly Star of China became the first progeny of the Usha Stud Farms' newest stallion, China Visit, to strike in Western India. The bay daughter of Dazzling Star was a winner right from the word go and also the most impressive one of the day. S. N. Chavan in turn got an armchair ride to success. Executive Strike finished on to take the second slot and was followed by Nara. Star of Paradise and Legal Eye were spent forces after chasing the winner till the home stretch. Grey Storm (Meritocrat-Roho Caliente) gave trainer Adil Dajee his second winner in recent times. The C. S. Jodha ridden grey gelding hit the front immediately as the start was given and had a trouble-free passage right to his destination. Perfect Peace ran a poor second while the ante post favourite Time Warner lost all his chances at the gates and ended a tame fourth.
