Mr Shantanu Sharma & trainer Bharath Singh leading Agnostic (P Trevor Up), winner of The Calcutta Champion's Sprint Trophy (Gr.3)

We are pleased to inform our readers that this website tipped all seven winners first tip on Wednesday, January 18

Bharath Singh-trained Agnostic (Top Class-Kabini) won his seventh race on the trot when he bagged The Calcutta Champions Sprint Trophy without much ado at RCTC on Wednesday. The last four events garnered by this crack sprinter have all been‘terms’ events and he has been partnered by ace riderTrevor on all four occasions. On this day, the six-horse field was led into the straight by Cape Tanaros with Awesome One in tow. Trevor and Agnostic were a handy fourth on the outside at the top the straight. Thereafter, he urged the bay for an effort and the response was spontaneous. A few cracks of the whalebone ensured that he overhauled the front-runner without any jitters. The vast improvement of Cape Tanaros this season has been truly remarkable and he will be worth keeping an eye on in the highest class.

Bharath Singh and Trevor combined fruitfully in the very next race -The Fire Flash Handicap – when Jawai (who incidentally happens to be a full sister to Agnostic)won the seven-furlong sprint in dramatic fashion. After languishing in the rear of the nine-horse field for most part, she moved with raking strides in the final furlong to edge out Tycoonist at the wire. Both siblings were sporting the colours of Shantanu Sharma who was indeed a proud and elated owner.

Punters went home happy on this mid-week race-day as fancied runners obliged in each of the seven races. The Perin DalalAlokananda Stakes saw Vijay Singh-trained Kind Of Magic (Sir Cecil-One Vision) put her best foot forward to win as she liked from stablemate Grace who was running green. No doubt, more will be heard of this pair in the future.

Jockey Imran Chisty set the trend for the afternoon with a well-backed hat-trick in the first three races of the day. After coming down the ladder considerably over the past three seasons, Javed Khan-trained Devine Chakra (LetirMor – Avec Plaisir) won the curtain-raiser – The Aeronative Handicap run over a mile. The six-year-old was backed down to on-money from 12/10 and he did not disappoint his backers as he won by six lengths from Toronero. He has been penalised 5.5kg for this effort and looks to be on the threshold of at least two more victories when placed judiciously by his mentor.

Chisty next pocketed the five-and-half furlong sprint for the HH Sookias Memorial Cupwith La Dominate – a three-year-old colt by Dali out of Lucy In The Sky from the Aashay Doctor stable. The dark bay won as he liked from second favourite Acantha who led till the 300m marker. The winner seems to be bred for speed and should be quite a force to reckon with as he matures. Javed Khan completed a brace as Chisty completed a hat-trick atop Dr Doom (Perfect Stride-Top Romance) in the five-and-half furlong sprint for the San Francisco Handicap. Chisty rode a regulation race from an outside draw as he permitted Nandini’s Pet to call the shots till the top of the straight before shooting ahead to win effortlessly.

A failed favourite in his last essay, B Mahesh-trained Agostino Carracci (Western Aristocrat-Portia) with Neeraj Rawal in the saddle, made ample amends in the ‘no whips’ race for the Sans Pareil Handicap run over seven furlongs. Divine Hunt was a creditable runner-up after running wide for most part.
