Trainer R Foley leading Empress Eternal (Sah Farid Ansari Up), winner of The P T Rajan Memorial Cup

On a day most lesser fancied runners dominated the competitive seven-event card at  Guindy on Saturday, the five to one shot Empress Eternal from Robert Foley's yard produced a sparkling gallop to come out on top in the P T Rajan Memorial Cup, the plum event run over a distance of seven furlongs. The topweighted Ayur Shakthi from Dr.Anil Kumar's yard garnered the maximum support on the strength of his two runner-up berths in her last two attempts. but the public choice again failed enter the winners' circle, finishing second behind Empress Eternal confidently piloted by the talented apprentice Farid Ansari. Diamond And Pearls who had finished third in his last essay, like Ayur Shakthi failed to climb up the ladder and stuck to the third spot.

The topweighted Hawk Of The Wind from Deepesh Narredu's yard piloted by the promising apprentice Dharshan proved too good in the upper division of the Fiery Red Pepper Cup, the principal added attraction run over a distance of 1100 metres. The winner, the first favourite to justify his top billing was backed to the exclusion of his 11 rivals and the Deepesh ward without really extending himself showed a clean pair of heels, romping home by a widening margin of seven lengths. Hawk Of The Wind is on top of his game and is certain to provide an encore. Sinatra gained the runner-up berth ahead of Big Treasure, while Royal Mayfair completed the frame.

The lower division of the event was claimed by stablemate Planet Venus partnered by Yash Narredu. Hawk Of The Wind and Planet Venus were the only two favourites to oblige after the favourites in the first five events chose to take a back seat. The fact that two of Deepesh's well supported runners came good helped a sizeable number of favourite punters to recoup a major portion of their losses, though it was the bookmakers who enjoyed the better of exchanges. Fabulous Show followed the winner home, a good five lengths behind, while Be Calm piloted by the five-kilo claimer Koshi Kumar managed to save money in place.

Earlier, Timeless Romance from Robert Foley's yard recorded his second success from her three starts so far this season, coming up trumps in the upper division of the Royal Black Gold Cup. The second in demand at the betting ring, who is in fine form produced another heartwarming effort to comfortably snuff out the challenge of the public choice Ginsburg from Jodha's yard. Advantageously placed in at the scales, Augusta from B Suresh's yard finished third ahead of the last start winner Celeritas.

The lower division of the event saw the Saddam Iqbal trainee Krishaa's Choice stun the followers of form edging out the second favourite  Zucardi in a close finish. The winner piloted by apprentice jockey Inayat  paid a rich dividend of Rs,335 on a tenner at the tote window. The well fancied Senora Bianca raced in patches and only managed to finish third ahead of Pappa Rich who performed below par after his eye-catching effort, second behind Proposed on Derby day.

Second behind Spectacle in her last essay and subsequently blazing the track in the morning trials, the James McKeown schooled Dear Lady was fancied most in the Golden Curcuma Cup run over a mile. But the overwhelming public choice disappointed her supporters finishing a tame third behind the 100 to one shot Strombosis, another from Saddam Iqbal's yard who floored the followers of form. Kings Walk from the stables of Suresh gained the runner-up berth and it will not be long before he earns his cornbill in the weeks ahead.

Haran from G S Parmar's yard reigned supreme in the opening event, the Mystical Myristica Cup run over a sprint. Farid Ansari who recorded a grand treble produced his best on Haran confidently guiding the old at tooth seven-year-old to a deserving win ahead of his two victories on Timeless Romance and Empress Eternal. The favourite Full Of Surprise from young trainer Vishesh's yard failed to match strides with Haran and the runner-up Glorious Victory and had to rest content with the third spot.
