Trainer Deepesh Narredu leading Forever (Yash Narredu Up), winner of The Urban Sea Trophy

The on-money favourite Forever from leading trainer Deepesh Narredu's yard proved too good in the Urban Sea Trophy, the plum event run over the gruelling mile-and-half trip, cantering home with Yash Narredu not needing to move a muscle all through the final two furlongs. The winner, who had finished second behind the Hyderabad raider Mysterious Angel in the South India Oaks performed satisfactorily in the blue riband of the season, the South India Derby, 4.5 lengths behind the winner DYF from Adhirajsingh Jodha's yard who was superbly piloted by leading pro Trevor Patel on D-day.

A confident Yash chose to play the waiting game on the talented filly before he provided her head at the top of the straight and the Deepesh ward breezed past the second in demand at the betting ring, Golden Kingdom to canter home in resplendent style. Wellington caught the eye while gaining the runner-up spot ahead of the better fancied stablemate Golden Kingdom, while the Bangalore challenger Successful from trainer Satish Narredu's yard completed the frame. Forever, it must be mentioned is in fine nick and it will pay to support her against the best in the Guindy campus in the weeks ahead.

Bertha was another Deepesh trainee, who impressed most while coming up tops in the Denmark Cup for maiden juveniles run over a sprint. The four to one shot partnered by Yash Narredu detonated her nine rivals in her third attempt after she failed to justify favouritism in her last effort. Royal Icon from B Suresh's yard, who had finished third thrice from as many starts again finished third to the delight of the third-horse pool punters. Velu Nachiyar followed the leader home and on the strength of this effort is certain to shed her maiden status in her next attempt. The winner now appears on top of her game and it will pay to follow Bertha again when saddled next.

The concluding event, the Princess Beautiful Handicap run over a sprint produced shock result, the 20 to one rankoutsider Thrill Of Power in the hands of Ayaz Khan edging out another long shot Majestic Charmer from Rupa's yard, while the the strongly fancied public choice Lord Of The Turf from Robert Foley's yard only managed to save money in place. The forecast pool on the first two, Thrill Of Power and Majestic Charmer paid a handsome dividend of Rs, 7,099 on a tenner at the tote window and the punter who nominated the first two danced all the way back home delighted with the result and more importantly his ability to pick the rankoutsiders ahead of the public choice in  the concluding event.

Earlier, Daiyamondo from Dhruv Kumar Futnani's yard pushed the followers of form back against the wall, the well supported public choice finishing a poor fourth in the opening event, the Interlaken Handicap run over a distance of 1100 metres. The lesser fancied Romantic Bay from Ajith Kumar's yard piloted by Sai Kumar in a pulse-pounding finish edged out Bella Amor partnered by apprentice Sah Farid Ansari by the shortest of margins.

Ansari who had lost out in the opening event, booted home the second in demand at the betting ring, Timeless Romance to another victory in the Tintinnabulation Handicap. The effort helped the Robert Foley trainee complete a hat-trick, while chalking out her fourth win this season. Spectacle finished second behind the winner, while the public choice Ginsburg raced in patches and eventually finished in the ruck.

On the strength of his eye-catching effort in his last essay, Vulcanic from Jodha's yard was rightly supported in the Renala Handicap run over a distance of 2000 metres and the top choice in the hands of apprentice M S Deora powered home to justify his top billing. Masterpiece did well to finish second ahead of Aretha who appears to be improving with each run under her belt. Vulcanic is in great heart and is set to provide an encore.
