Mr Shantanu Sharma & trainer Bharath Singh leading Agnostic (P Trevor Up), winner of The Sprinters Trial Stakes (Gr.3)

On a day most second fancied contestants dominated the competitive card framed on Friday, the top Kolkata sprinter Agnostic, who is down here to compete in the Sprinters Cup on the eve of the Indian Turf Invitation Cup on the first Saturday of March produced another sublime effort to record his eight straight victory, coming up trumps in the Sprinters Trial Stakes to the delight of the Kolkata camp. The winner from Bharath Singh's yard looked fit and well at the paddock and his pilot Trevor Patel, who has successfully partnered him in his last five winning efforts produced another fine effort to help the pride and joy of Kolkata maintain his winning streak.

The Padmanabhan schooled Golden Oaks garnered the maximum support in the sprint trial, but the last start winner after calling the shots for the first five furlongs surrendered the advantage to Agnostic and the Kolkata hero streaked ahead and gallantly pegged back the belated bid of Aztec Queen to remain unbeaten from his last half-dozen starts. Knotty Dancer, who had gone off the boil appears to have regained form and fitness, evident from his suggestive third behind Aztec Queen, while Golden Oaks only managed to stay in the frame.

Agnostic apart, Elpenor from Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard emerged the most impressive winner making a smashing debut in the Chambal Plate for juveniles run over a sprint. The winner despite being drawn badly (12) in the dozen-horse field donkey-licked his 11 rivals and it is clear from his resplendent debut that Elpenor is one of the top youngsters in the campus. Royal Mysore from trainer Prasanna Kumar's yard, who was fancied strongly to start his career on a winning note found Elpenor too hot to handle and had to rest content with the runner-up berth. The Parvati schooled Golden Peaks will benefit most from this run under her belt and it will pay to support her when next saddled.

The Padmanabhan schooled Turkoman, a facile last start winner and Lycurgus from the stables of Sharath Kumar were fancied most in the Bhima Plate run over a mile before Turkoman marginally headed the betting board. The two market leaders dominated the duel before Lycurgus in the hands of top pro Srinath stormed ahead and powered home in convincing fashion. The topweighted Starry Wind who was fancied strongly in place managed to finish third and that provided Mohd.Khan supporters a big reason to smile.

The next event, the third division of the Kabini Plate run over a sprint produced a shock result, the eight to one shot, Spirit Dancer from Ganapathy's yard piloted in determined fashion by R N Darshan proving too good for her 10 rivals. The Ghatala schooled Peridot,Air Blast from the stables of Pradeep and the Warren Singh schooled Activated attracted support in what appeared a very open race and at the end it was Spirit Dancer and Ganapathy who gained the day ahead of another lesser fancied contestant Princess Jasmine, whilePeridot only managed to save place money.

Back after proudly leading in Mirra in the Mumbai Indian Derby, Arjun Manglorkar led in Archway, the winner of the second division. The second in demand at the betting ring hit the front in the hands of John soon after the 11 runners came under the starter's flag and never let the initiative slip, sprinting home in fine style to upet the applecart of the Ghatala schooled Sociable, who was backed to the exclusion of her 10 rivals. Stunning Beauty finished third ahead of Flamingo Road partnered by Saqlain.

A smart last start winner, The Republic Power from Sharath Kumar's yard was heavily backed in the first division and the public choice in the hands of top pro Srinath got up just in time to snatch the verdict from rankoutsider Tiger Returns at the shadow of the winning post. The effort helped Sharath and Srinath record a double to the delight of their supporters who at one stage had given up hopes on the even-money favourite before Srinath in a never-say-die bid pulled out all stops to flash past the post first in a thriller. Stars Above finished third, while the second choice Step To Destiny after being favourably placed at the top of the straight lacked the gas to make a race of it in the final two furlongs.

Sacred Creator from Narayan Gowda's yard was another second favourite who galloped home in fine style to win the upper division of the Mahi Plate, the concluding event run over a distance of seven furlongs. Altair from Sharath Kumar's yard piloted by the Delhi-based Vivek stole a march at the distance post, but the moment Angad reminded Sacred Creator of the task ahead approaching the distance it was all over bar the shouting, the Narayan Gowda ward cantering home in style. Altair held on to take the second spot ahead of the favourite Country's Jewel.

The lower division saw the second in demand at the betting ring Cash Out prove too good in the opening event run over a sprint. The winner in the hands of Alex Rozario darted ahead and showed a clean pair of heels to Phoenix Surprise who was a medium of a king-sized gamble which flopped badly. Perfect Halo finished a creditable third ahead of the advantageously placed in at the scales Star Citizen.

Shubankar from veteran trainer Warren Singh's yard recorded his second straight victory reigning supreme in the K N Chennabasappa Memorial Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. The in-form grey hit the front in the hands of top gun Akshay Kumar and never let the initiative slip to the delight of the Warren camp comfortably pegging back the game effort of The Inheritor.
