The Jockeys reigned supreme in the second edition of the BTC Invitation Cup T8 cricket tournament defeating Warriors XI (Club Members) at the BARI ground. The winners, who had won the first edition again dominated the championship producing good efforts with both bat and ball to outwit the Warriors by a slender margin of seven runs in the final.
Jockeys, thanks to a good knock from Naveen (24) scored 53 runs in the allotted eight overs. Warriors skipper Nikhil Yathiraj picked up two wickets.
Required to get 54, Warriors lost three early wickets including Nikhil who was brilliantly snapped up at point and Udit Patel who holed out, playing a big shot in the deep and that put the brakes on the green shirted finalists. However, Prakash Palani (23), who remained unbeaten and Vishal Sivappa (10) kept the Warriors in hunt before Vishal fell in the penultimate over. A tight final over
from Akash Agarwal sealed the issue for the Jockeys, Warriors falling seven run short of the target.
Earlier, Warriors beat Trainers XI in the opening contest and Trainers next lost to Jockeys resulting in Jockeys locking horns with Warriors in the summit clash.
Udit Patel from Warriors was adjudged the Man Of The Tournament for his winning knock (33) runs against the Trainers XI. Aravind Kumar was declared the best bowler of the championship.
Winning skipper Imran Khan who tactfully led the side lauded Naveen for his knock, while making it clear that team work did the trick for the jockeys. "It was a good team effort, seniors playing the part, mentoring and motivating the youngsters to produce their best," said Imran.
Nikhil Yathiraj admitted that the loss of three early wickets tilted the balance. But his team in defeat was not disgraced and lives to fight another day. "We didn't play to our potential in the final. But we will come back stronger and a lot fitter next year, said Nikhil, while congratulating the winners.
