Trainer V Narayana Gowda leading Auspicious Queen (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Governor's Trophy

One look at the declaration for the final day's winter races pointed to Trevor Patel. In the big-fight for the champion jockey crown, Trevor and Srinath were tied at 22 apiece going into the final day. And on Friday, Trevor had better rides and this was proved right, the top gun booting home four winners, while Srinath drew a blank. Irfan Ghatala, who enjoyed a two point lead over Sharath Kumar bagged the Champion Trainer Title without any addition to the 16 in his kitty.

Trevor opened his account on the Pradeep Annaiah schooled Accumulate in the second division of the Champion Jockey Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. The strongly supported on-money favourite, who had impressed most in the morning trials proved too good for his nine rivals providing Trevor an arm-chair ride to success. The topweighted Capriati followed the leader home ahead of Breeze Bluster, while Foi from Aravind Ganapathy's yard, who was fancied to run the winner close failed to produce her best and eventually finished down the field. The first division of the event too went in favour of Trevor, the top saddle artiste packing punch on the Lokanath schooled King Of War to edge out the lesser fancied Agere from Pradeep's yard in a close finish. Two back-to-back wins put Trevor on the high road and the champion in no mood to relax guided home another public rage Seige Courageous in the Leading Stud Trophy run over 1100M in record time (1:5.65) bettering the existing mark ( 1:5.85) registered by Isnt She Beautiful last year.

After recording a popular treble and emerging the top `Knight', Trevor astride another Lokanath ward Memorable Time in the concluding event of the season, the Good-Bye Plate produced a stellar effort to sign off in style, edging out Cinco De Mayo and the favourite Antilope piloted by John in a thriller. The winner at a crucial juncture looked beat, Cinco De Mayo, Jai Vikram and Ultimate Chance holding the edge in the final dash, but full marks to Trevor, the champion in a never-say-die bid relentlessly drove the winner hard and snatched the verdict at the shadow of the winning post. Cinco De Mayo finished second ahead of Antilope, who will not stay long in this lowest category.

The well-supported Macron from Pradeep's yard and Sacred Creator from the stables of Narayan Gowda garnered maximum support in the third division of the Champion Jockey Trophy, but much to the chagrin of the followers of form, the good looking `Jodi' went out of the window, Likith Appu astride the topweighted Tap Dancer from Neil Devaney's yard  coming up tops to the delight of her supporters. The favourite partnered by Trevor gained the runner-up spot ahead of the second in demand at the betting ring, Sacred Creator piloted by Srinath.

In the next event, the Gangavalli Plate run over a mile, Srinath astride the facile last start winner My Vision was fancied to add to his winning tally of 22, but all that My Vision did was finish a tame third behind the lesser fancied winner Thunderstruck from Sharath Kumar's yard who cantered home in the hands of Imran Chisty. The victory pushed Sharath closer to Irfan, a solitary win separating the two with seven races left on the final day, but that was all Sharath could muster, none of his three other runners making it to the winners' circle.

On the strength of her impressive effort in her last essay, Auspicious Queen from Narayan Gowda's yard was considered a cinch in the Governor's Trophy run over a mile and the talented daughter of Gusto donkey-licked her five rivals without working up sweat. A confident Suraj Narredu produced a copybook effort on the effortless winner, who is set to record a hat-trick when saddled next in summer. The win on Auspicious Queen incidentally was 2300 registered by the top pro Suraj.

The Sulaiman Attaollahi schooled De Villiers recorded a shock victory in the Leading Owner Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. The Neil Devaney-trained Last Wish and De Villiers' stablemate Moon's Blessing topped the betting board  before the five to one shot De Villiers spoilt Last Wish's party, charging home in the final furlong to overhaul the leader, who in the final furlong looked set to score. Del Mar surprised most finishing third ahead of Moon's Blessing who failed to display her true potential.

Devils Magic was one other fancied contestant who flopped in his effort to justify favouritism. The Neil Devaney ward enjoyed the top billing in the Champion Trainer Trophy, but the public choice raced in patches and failed to even save money in place. Scribbling Hopper from Azhar Ali's yard dropped a big bombshell coming up trumps in the hands of Ajeet Kumar, edging out Mystic Eye and the lesser fancied The Inheritor.
