Trainer Deepesh Narredu leading Miss Allure (A Ashhad Asbar up) winner of the Gold Trip Plate

On a day most lesser fancied runners including a couple of ten to one long shots waltzed to victory, Miss Allure from Deepesh Narredu's yard made a fine impression, winning her maiden start at the Nilgiris in a common canter. The filly, who was never of the frame in all her four earlier starts at Chennai looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring and in the hands Ashhad Asbar donkey-licked her seven rivals to shed her maiden status in style in the Gold Trip Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The winner, who rightly opened favourite in the bookmakers' ring surprisingly was offered at (9/4), money pouring in on the Uthaiah schooled Kallipos. The Uthaiah trainee who had finished second behind Multicrown in her last essay was fancied most, most old hats in the game advocating that Kallipos with a good run under her belt would be hard to down. But all that Kallipos did was take a lot of good money down the drain after raising hopes, attempting to make every post a winning one before packing up at the top of the straight and failing to save even money in place. Miss Allure assumed command at the top of the straight and the moment Asbar reminded the filly of the task ahead it was all over bar the shouting. Lesser fancied Salome gained the runner-up berth ahead of Aurora Borealis.

Leading pro Umesh started out in style, booting home two winners in the first two races. The top pro astride the second in demand at the betting ring, Glorious Victory edged out the public choice Tifosi in a thriller in the opening event, the Native Trail Handicap run over a sprint. The winner from Fahad Khan's yard to the delight of his supporters produced a winning gallop at the all-important end to snuff out the challenge of the favourite Tifosi, who in her effort to make every post a winning one went down close home. Epistoiary surprised most finishing third ahead of Stillwater, who was fancied most in place, but much to the disappointment of her supporters, the mare only finished fourth.

Spurred by the success in the first race, Umesh had it easy on the topweighted Dancing Grace in the Lord North Handicap run  over a distance of seven furlongs.

The winner from Sebastian's yard offered at (5/1) in the betting ring tracked the leader Anzio for most part of the trip before he streaked ahead at the top of the straight and quickly put the race to bed in the final furlong. Anzio held on to finish second ahead of the strongly supported favourite Supreme Grandeur, while Raffinato from the stables of Krishna completed the frame.

On the strength of her good second behind Fiat Justitia after winning her maiden start in resplendent style, Big Treasure from the stables of Ramanathan garnered the maximum support in the upper division of the Westover Handicap. Despacito too had her share of followers and most big bettors chose to go with this `Jodi'. But it was the lesser fancied  Mon General from Ajith Kumar's yard who powered home, easily making every post a winning one in the hands of Ashhad Asbar. Wild Frank gained the runner-up berth ahead of the public choice Big Treasure, while Despacito failed to make the board.

The lower division of the event saw the favourite Demesthenes from Ramanathan's yard enter the winners' circle much to the relief of most followers of form who had lost out big, all the favourites in the first four races failing to justify favouritism. The favourite edged out the long shot Mayflower who displayed her true potential after three lacklustre performances this season. Daiyamondo finished third ahead of Autumn Shower and it will pay to support this Krishna trainee before the curtain is brought down this month.

A smart last start winner, Abilitare from Krishna's yard dropped the biggest bombshell competing against higher rated and higher ranked horses in the upper class. The 20 to one shot partnered by apprentice jockey M S Deora much to the chagrin of railbirds beat the public rage Windsor Walk from Suresh's yard. The winner who had thrice finished second from his three earlier starts, it is clear needs luck in his favour to earn his winning bracket and that may happen in his next effort. Abilitare's shock victory floored all the pool hunters, the five-horse puzzle, Jackpot carried forward. The topweighted Suparakiga from Anil Kumar's yard who brought off a successfdul coup in his last essay raced in patches and eventually only managed to complete the frame.

After Windsor Walk, it was Kings Walk who took a `walk' in the upper division of the Pyledriver Handicap run over a mile. The public rage backed to the exclusion of his eight rivals met a tartar in Sweet Fragrance who threw a spanner in the wheel of the Suresh schooled Kings Walk. The eight to one shot winner helped Deora and Krishna record a double. In the lower division, the Suresh-trained Royal Baron who had impressed most while finishing a game second behind Andorra after winning his first two starts at the Blue Mountains this season recorded his third victory and this helped bring the smile back on the face of the leading trainer Suresh who appears set to emerge the champion trainer this season. Sonic Dash fancied quietly by the Deepesh camp found the winner too hot to handle and had to rest content with the runner- up berth.
