Trainer J Sebastian leading Supreme Dance (P Sai Kumar Up), winner of The Nilgiris Gold Cup

Local hero Supreme Dance emerged the horse of the season, recording a fine hat-trick on Sunday. The in-form Sebastian ward competing in the Nilgiris Gold Cup produced another stellar effort in the hands of his Sai Kumar to outclass his two Bangalore rivals, Priceless Gold from trainer Rajesh Narredu's yard and the public rage Evaldo from the stables of leading Bangalore pro Prasanna Kumar to make the Nilgiris racing buffs proud. The manner in which he detonated his two highly rated rivals was the talking point and it is clear that Supreme Dance is simply loving the weather and enjoying his stint on the trick track at the Blue Mountains.

Sai Kumar pushed Supreme Dance to the front soon after the three runners came under the starter's flag for the mile long journey and the winner set a decent pace all through the backstretch before outwitting his two rivals in the final furlong. Evaldo touted a `moral certainty' was the first to run out of gas even before the three negotiated the final curve and next it was Priceless Gold who was only chasing the shadow of Supreme Dance all the way to the post. The star performer is in rousing form and he will add to his tally if his connections choose to race him in the final week or target a race in the Bangalore summer season.

The principal added attraction, the Badruka Ooty Juvenile Sprint Million was claimed by the strongly fancied Moriset from leading trainer B Suresh's yard. The winner in the hands of champion pro Umesh hit the front soon after the the six runners came under the starter's flag and stayed ahead, gallantly pegging back the belated effort of stablemate Speculation close home.Bertha from trainer Deepesh Narredu's yard who, had her fair share of followers failed to match strides with the first two and had to rest content with the third spot.

Suresh who is set to win the champion trainer title recorded a double proudly leading in Gutsy in the concluding event, the Ghaiyyath Handicap run over a sprint. A smart last start winner Gutsy tracked the leader Velu Nachiyar from Saddam Iqbal's yard and the favourite Happiness under the care of Sebastian for most part of the sprint trip before Sai Kumar reminded the Suresh ward of the task ahead at the top of the straight and the winner pulled the plug and fused out her nine rivals in splendid style. Happiness held on to finish second ahead of Wild Frank, while Ashwa Dev took the fourth spot.

Trainer Ramanathan shared the training honours with Suresh recording a double through the well-backed Knotty Wonder and the lesser fancied Sheer Elegance. The former made every post a winning one in the lower division of the Brigadier Gerard Plate, while Sheer Elegance competing in the Golden Horn Handicap produced a sparkling gallop approaching the final curve to assume command and then put the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Perfect Blend followed Sheer Elegance home, while the two top fancied contestants, Choice and and Supreme Grandeur, performed below par. Choice just about managed to save money in place, while Supreme Grandeur finished down the field. The most improved pro Amit partnered both the winners from Ramanathan's yard.

The Ajit Kumar schooled Wellington shocked the followers of form romping home in the Hill Stamina Trophy run over a distance of 2000 metres. The ten to one long shot piloted by Brisson hit the front 400 metres from home and powered through to score in emphatic fashion. Cape Wickham did well to gain the runner-up berth ahead of the two joint favourites Multicrown and Dancing Grace. The latter  finished a tame third, nine lengths behind Cape Wickham, while Multicrown completed the frame, a solitary length behind Dancing Grace.

Trainer  Adhirajsingh Jodha brought off a successful coup in the opening event, the well-backed Cloudy Hills proving too good for her rivals in the opening event, the upper division of the Brigadier Gerard Plate. Shrikant Kamble astride the winner produced a copybook effort to the delight of the Jodha camp. Now that the winner has shed her maiden status, it will pay to follow this Jodha trainee against next time out.
