On a day most fancied contestants nailed bold colours to the mast, the 15 to one long shot Third Avenue dropped the biggest bombshell winning the Chief Justice's Cup, the plum event in emphatic fashion. The rankoutsider partnered by the in-form saddle artiste Akshay Kumar from Arti Doctor's yard produced an astounding gallop to breeze past the pipping hot favourite King's Ransom and romp home in style. The shock victory stunned the railbirds particularly the big bettors who invested big on the Shroff schooled public rage offered at a miserly price of (45/100). Chouhan  astride the multi-classic winner took charge at the top of the straight, but the moment she came under pressure from Third Avenue, it was clear that the short-priced favourite was in trouble and at the end the Shroff ward struggled to finish third behind the runner-up Rasputin. Third Avenue's shock victory silenced the railbirds and after the lesser fancied Classic Charm came up tops in the concluding event, the bookmakers, who were under the pump recovered to present a satisfactory balance sheet at the end.

In the principal added attraction, the D Kumar Siddanna Memorial Cup, the even-money favourite Champions Way completed a superb hat-trick.Yash Narredu sent the even-money favourite to the front soon after the small field of five runners came under the starter's flag for the 2000 metres event and never let the initiative slip powering home nice and easy to the delight of his trainer Satish Narredu. Champions Way's next target will be the blue riband of the season, the summer Derby scheduled to be held on Sunday, July 16. Kolkata hopeful Ramiel finished a game second ahead of the topweighted Fortunate Son, while Splendido, who surprisingly attracted fair support and in fact was the second choice in the betting ring, beat only one home and that was last start winner Big Red.

Earlier, the well fancied Twilight Tornado from Neil Devaney's yard, in a pulse-pounding finish nosed out the 20 to one long shot Millbrook from Arjun Manglorkar's stable in the opening event, the Dupont Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The winner, who was fancied most on the strength of his eye-catching second behind Archway last week produced a sparkling gallop in the hands of apprentice jockey Inayat to stun Millbrook at the post. Foi finished third ahead White Roses, while Solid Power who had his share of followers performed below par.

The Irfan Ghatala schooled Anadale garnered the maximum support in the lower division of the Sir Bruce Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The public choice, a progeny of Win Legend failed to match strides with the first three much to the disappointment of her supporters. Second in demand at the betting ring, Amazing Attraction from Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard powerfully piloted by top gun Trevor Patel produced an astounding gallop in the final furlong to snuff out the challenge of Prophecy, who in her effort to make every post a winning one in the hands of Pradeep Chouhan finished third behind the Kolkata hopeful Imperial Gesture, who is certain to shed his maiden status in the weeks ahead.

The upper division of the event was claimed by the second favourite Golden Glow from trainer Imtiaz Sait's yard. The winner, who had finished a creditable third behind the goodtype of youngster Mazal Tov looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring and with the top saddle artiste Akshay Kumar guiding his fortunes got up in time to outwit the favourite Indian Sniper who was confidently supported by the Hyderabad camp. Windsor from the stables of Leo D'Silva finished a creditable third and is one for the notebook.

Second in demand at the betting ring, Capri Girl from veteran trainer Warren Singh's yard edged out the overwhelming favourite Chul Bul Rani close home in the lower division of the Prabalo Plate run over a sprint. The public choice piloted by four-kilo claimer Tousif Khan hit the front soon after the nine contestants came under the starter's flag and called the shots for most part of the trip before Sai Kiran packed punch on Capri Girl and the Warren ward responding gamely to her master's call quickened in time to earn her cornbill. Chul Bul Rani hung on to claim the runner-up berth ahead of last start winner By The Book, while Domina completed the frame.
