KALAMITSI WINS POLICE CUP

By Ikram Khan | 22 Jul 2023 | BANGALORE

Trainer S S Attaollahi leading Kalamitsi (P Trevor up), winner of The Karnataka Police Cup

On a day, the on-money favourite King Louis from trainer James McKeown's yard  was beaten by stablemate Slainte and Ashwa Magadheera's pathetic show in the plum event,  floored the punters, top gun Trevor Patel stole the limelight recording a grand treble. The most sought after saddle artsite opened his account making every post a winning one on the Warren Singh schooled Aircraft in the Doncaster Plate run over a mile. The winner opened (2/1) in the betting ring before the price on Aircraft doubled and that's simply because the Warren Singh camp strongly fancied their other runner Glow In The Dark piloted by Sai Kiran. The much fancied Glow In The Dark who consistently had figured in the frame in his last three efforts this season found the mile long trip beyond his compass and finished a poor fourth, while his stablemate Aircraft was successful in his pillar to post exercise, gallantly pegging back the belated effort of the lesser fancied Memorable Time partnered by Akshay Kumar.

Astride the second in demand at the betting ring, Kalamitsi, Trevor produced another start to finish effort to help Kalamitsi record his second straight success powering home in emphatic fashion, The on-money favourite Ashwa Magadheera piloted by leading pro Suraj Narredu, it appeared lost his galloping shoes in the nine furlongs trip and finished last of the four runners in the Karnataka Police Cup. The dismal effort of the public choice shocked the followers of form taking into account that the Satish Narredu ward failed to beat the two no hopers Knight In Hooves and Shubankar. The winner it must be mentioned is on top of his game and is set to complete a hat-trick of wins, when saddled next.

In line for a treble, Trevor packed punch on the Sulaiman schooled West Brook, who made a smashing debut in the Betway Cape Dance Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. Red Falcon from Irfan Ghatala's yard on the strength of his impressive second behind Ricardo was fancied most, but the small made youngster after streaking ahead at the distance post found West Brook too hot to handle at end and had to rest content with the runner-up berth. The winner appears a goodtype of youngster and more will be heard of this Sulaiman ward in the weeks ahead. Red Falcon too will benefit most from this testing exercise and his next start will prove to be third time lucky for the small fella.

Earlier, Trevor partnering King Louis in the Dr KM Srinivasa Gowda Memorial Cup; let down a large following failing to reproduce his sublime mock race effort and going down tamely to his stablemate Slainte partnered by the talented apprentice Abdul Fazal who struck on both the Inayat rides, the Chennai apprentice not cleared to ride after suffering a fall at the Mysore races on Thursday. It is learnt that King Louis broke his blood vessels during the race. And now that we know the `King' has started to bleed, it is best to stay away from Louis.

The Arjun Manglorkar schooled Greenwich proved too good in the opening event, the Bold Gesture Plate run over a sprint. The winner was freely offered at (3/1) in what looked an open affair And John guiding the fortunes of the winner had it easy, raising no sweat while guiding home a smart winner who has the ability to score in a higher category and the lowest class opportunity came as a gift to the Arjun Manglorkar ward. Way Of Life followed the winner home while Sky Princess finished a creditable third ahead of Bellissimo.

On the strength of her suggestive effort, third behind King Of War on Derby day, the Aravind Ganapathy schooled Foi was fancied most in the lower division of the Aboline Plate run  over a sprint and the public choice readily justified the confidence of her supporters, producing a winning gallop approaching the distance post to romp home a deserving winner. Chiraag from M R Singh's yard finished a good second ahead of  Domina, while Solo Prince from Pradeep Annaiah's yard, who was a medium of king-sized gamble flopped badly and failed to even save money in place.

Divine Blessings from Neil Devaney's yard and the Anil Kumar schooled Embankment garnered the maximum support in the concluding event, the upper division of the Aboline Plate. The latter was backed down from (6/1) to (2/1), while Divine Blessings who opened favourite at (9/4) drifted out to (3/1) before closing joint favourite with Embankment.

Abdul Fazal pushed the Devaney ward to the front soon after the field of nine runners came under the starter's flag and was never headed, sprinting home in style, while Embankment struggled to make a race of it and finished  a poor fourth behind the runner-up Opus One and Star Comet.
