BRIAR RIDGE CLAIMS FEATURE WITH A GUTSY PERFORMANCE

Most trainers around the Indian racing circuit bring their horses to Bangalore during summer as the city's salubrious environment certainly aids in conditioning their juvenile lot. This was evident when no less than six out of eight events in Tuesday's card were won by horses which had travelled to Bangalore.

Be that as it may, barring the success of Briar Ridge and Blue Label to an extent, fancied runners continued to strike for the third day in succession. The gutsy performance of friendless Briar Ridge (Strong Suit - Midnight Cruze) helped him claim the Osman Sagar Cup, which gave the battered bookies a minor reprieve. The KSV Prasad Raju saddled Briar Ridge overcame his wide draw to get into an advantageous position whilst the lead kept changing swiftly as the crowded field of sixteen took off for the six furlong sprint. Briar Ridge launched his assault in final run in and then asserted his superiority over the leaders to assume command. Santosh Raj packed enough punch in his effort to repel the late onslaught of Akshay Kumar ridden Beauty Blaze close home. Morior Invictus also arrived late on the scene to finish third ahead of Miss Little Angel.

In the day's curtain raiser, Blue Label earned precious stakes for his connections by producing a strong gallop in the straight. K Satheesh groomed Blue Label (Planetaire - Real Magic) was hard ridden by apprentice RS Jodha to overhaul the leaders headed by his fancied stablemate My Master opposite the stands and kept going to keep the late finsihing Sorry Darling at bay. Ar Superior raced prominently with the leaders but failed to quicken and ended a close third ahead of Riffa.

Blue Label's success was followed by four on-money favourites reaping a rich harvest for the moneybags. Prasad Raju mentored Alexina (Western Aristocrat - Alexandrie) was fighting fot after her Bangalore trip which counted when she emerged from the maiden ranks with a pillar to post effort. P Sai Kumar eased Alexina into the lead as the twelve maidens took off for the Con Amore Plate and proceeded to win with a fair measure of comfort. Colt Pistol went in hot pursuit initially but faded out allowing Pontecrat to take the second spot and barely managed to hold on to the third place from Thunder Knight.

Despite her successful start-to-finish effort in his previous outing at Bangalore recently, Brilliant Star lacked initial speed as the nine runners were flagged off for the lower division of the PM Bokdawalla Cup. The Thunder and Exotic Dancer disputed the lead and brought the field into the final stretch. Exotic Dancer flaterred briefly before Hard To Toss and Rising Queen challenged her but Brilliant Star (Dali - Aceempressjessie) unleashed a devastating run to floor them all. Yash Narredu confidently steered the Ravinder Singh saddled colt, who outclassed the opposition to register his third career success. Rising Queen ended a faraway second. Malibu made up lost ground to end third ahead of Star Racer.

Having recorded her maiden victory at Bangalore recently, Enabling (Roderic O'Connor - Favourite Royal) followed it up with another bracket at her home ground. Saddled by Ravinder Singh, Enabling was powered to a glorious win by Akshay after overcoming the brief resistance from Yaletown and Golden Forza, who headed the field till the final bend. Enabling quickly slipped through the shortest home at this stage and then sauntered home after picking up momentum in the last furlong or so. Reigning Queen was the runner up ahead of Yaletown and Splendour On Grass.

L D'silva schooled Kenaf also proved too good for her adversaries in the first division of the PM Bokdawalla Cup and kept her unbeaten record at Malakpet intact. Entrusted to Afroz Khan, Kenaf (Dali - Dallaah) darted into the lead shortly after jumping out and showed a clean pair of heels to her rivals. Garnet was in futile chase of the winner throughout. Pal Cha ended in the money ahead of Beauty Flame.

Commanding Knight, one of the three winners sent out by Prasad Raju and who was lesser fancied only to Adbhut, also cashed in on his fitness unlike his main adversary in the Adilabad Plate (Div-II). Adbhut, entrusted to 5kg-claimer Ekram Alam by D'silva, was in receipt of 6.5kg from Commandimg Knight which he tried to capitalise on with a wire-to-wire bid. Adbhut almost pulled it off but P Sai Kumar driven Commanding Knight finished on strongly to stun him on the post and provide a double to his saddle partner. The rest of the runners were simply outpaced with It's On and Fresh Hope finishing far behind the first two horses.

Worcester provided both D'silva and Akshay a double in the last race. Proud Mary reveived enthusiastic support in the betting close to the race time and made a good attempt to land the spoils but proved no match to the winner. A Imran Khan piloted Proud Mary pounced upon leader London Bells who brought the field into home stretch. Proud Mary failed to sustain lead as Worcester responded well to Akshay's call and snubbed the favourite with a little over 100mts from home. Lucky Zone rallied well to take the second position ahead of Proud Mary, who had Mauser in tow.
