STELLAR PERFORMANCE FETCHES FILLIES CHAMPIONSHIP FOR LIVERMORE

By Usman Rangila | 28 Aug 2023 | HYDERABAD

Mr M Ramakrishna Reddy & trainer L D Silva leading Livermore (S Saqlain Up), winner of The Y Shanker Rao Memorial Deccan Fillies Championship Stakes (Gr.3)

As most race-goers fancied the chances of the three outstation horses, Ameerah, August and West Brook, the odds seemed stacked against the Leo D'silva nursed filly Livermore in the Y. Shankar Rao Memorial Deccan Fillies Championship Stakes (Gr.3). That pessimism, however, had no bearing on the petite filly's brilliance as she romped home in the day's main event. Seminole set the early pace for the mile journey with August, West Brook and Ameerah in close attendance in the early stages before Livermore moved up to be fourth. N R I Doublepower lacked initial speed and lay at the end of the six-horse field. Akshay Kumar made his move astride West Brook while negotiating the final turn and tackled Seminole Wind as soon as the field straightened for home. Meanwhile, S. Saqlain lost no time in putting Livermore (Speaking of Which - Sherman Oaks) into top gear and ranged alongside the favourite. Both West Brook and Livermore waged a ding-dong battle for about a furlong before the latter snuffed out her rival's challenge and went sailing clear. West Brook held on to the second place ahead of the late-finishing N R I Doublepower, who had Ameerah and August in close tow.

Vithal Deshmukh's ward Mysterious Angel was the odds-on choice to annex the Governor's Cup event, which served as the day's curtain raiser. Ajeeth Kumar-partnered Mysterious Angel (Smuggler's Cove - Mykonos) was ridden off the pace as City of Bliss showed the way to the field of rank outsiders. Ajeeth brought the 10 to 7 on favourite from the wide outside and soon joined the issue with City of Bliss. Mysterious Angel took a few taps from his rider before raising a fluent gallop and was homeward bound for her seventh career success. Watch My Stride rallied late to pip City of Bliss for second place with Top Secret finishing fourth. New Look ran riderless after dislodging jockey B. Nikhil as the start was given.

The lingering doubts on whether Enabling could tackle the mile trip led to Kings Best drawing more support than he deserved in the betting for the S. Rangarajan Memorial Million. But the filly mentored by Laxman Singh put all doubts to rest with an authoritative victory in the hands of Akshay. Best Buddy brought the field of eight into the straight and passed on the baton to Kings Best who was waiting to pounce on him. Kings Best flattered for a short while till Enabling (Roderic O'Connor- Favourite Royal) came with a dazzling run and forced her rival into submission. Enabling then bounced clear to make it three in a row from four career starts. Painted Apache progressed well to deprive Kings Best the runner up berth while Nightmare ended fourth.

Jasbir Singh trained Nucleus not only made light of the heavy impost of 60kgs on his back but also carried the public's purse successfully. The credentials of Nucleus (Bated Breath - Blush's Gift) were far superior than that of his eight rivals, which made him the obvious choice in the race reserved for maidens. The Mohit Singh ridden bay colt tracked leader Silver Lining till about two furlongs from winning post and made it a one horse race after overhauling the front runner. Nucleus hung in badly when throwing his challenge at Silver Lining but galloped smoothly soon after taking charge of the running. Silver Lining, Jack Daniel and Saint Emilion followed the winner home.

Prasad Raju's ward Sangreal (Sanus Per Aquam - Sans Pareil) also justified his favouritism when graduating from the maiden ranks. P. Sai Kumar settled Sangreal close behind the leaders Setastar and Assured Success till the heads turned for home and then assumed command after a brief tussle with the latter. Just when it looked like Sangreal was coasting home for an easy victory, Realeza came charging towards the favourite. The winning line arrived just in time for Sangreal as Realeza fell short by three parts of a length. Assured Success stayed in the money ahead of Blazing Gun, who had lots of smart money flowing his way in the betting ring.

Exclusive Luck, who had been languishing in the maiden ranks, finally made it to the winner's enclosure at the age of five and was well supported to do so. The joint favourite Classical Music once again made a pillar-to-post bid which failed in the last 100m.  Pancho was the first to overhaul Classical Music but was soon overrun by Robin Reddy trained and Md. Ismail-piloted Exclusive Luck (One Lucky Dane - Lucky Gal), who came with a flashy run down the straight. Bein Pensant ran thereabouts to finish fourth behind Classical Music.

The D'silva trainee Adbhut made amends for his narrow defeat at the hands of Commanding Knight earlier witb a smashing victory in the hands of Afroz Khan. Adbhut (Dali - Dysnomia) stayed in close touch with the leaders headed by Sound Echo and was brought into the reckoning in the final two furlongs. Life's Living swooped down on Sound Echo to take charge but her lead didn't last long. Adhbut wore him down with a powerful burst and scampered home for an overdue win. Happy Go Lucky wrested the second spot from Life's with a late rally. Favourite Alexina ran disappointingly to finish a tame fourth.

The day ended on a happy note for punters with Divine Destiny romping home for his second career success. The chestnut gelding from Deshmukh's barns went in chase of favourite Mandela from the word go and easily overhauled him in the final run-in. Exclusive Spark also appeared on the scene and tried to catch Divine Destiny (Sedgefield - Friendly) which proved to be an exercise in futility. Voice of a Dream ran on to finish third, a neck ahead of the tiring Mandela.
