Trainer Satish Narredu leading Eternal Princess (Vinod Shinde Up), winner of The Civil Services Trophy

One overwhelming favourite and four second choices saw punters return home with a spring in their stride. Second behind Aldgate in her last essay, the five to one shot Eternal Princess from the stables of Satish Narredu piloted in determined fashion by Vinod Shinde produced a gutsy performance to edge out the public choice Amreli in the Civil Services Trophy, the plum event run over a sprint on Wednesday.

The speedy customer in her attempt to make every post a winning one was headed by the favourite Amreli a furlong from home and at this juncture it looked like the favourite would sail home nice and easy. But to the shock and surprise of her supporters, Amreli partnered by leading saddle artiste Trevor Patel after streaking ahead failed to keep going and this provided Eternal Princess a chance to bounce back and Vinod Shinde in a never-say-die bid packed punch on his mount and regained the initiative before hitting the post first to the delight of the Satish Narredu camp. Amreli, it must be mentioned lacks the willingness to fight and that's one reason, she has lost more races than she has won and this has costed her connections dear. Michigan Melody finished third ahead of Tracer Bullet, who is likely to earn her corn bill in the month ahead.

The talented Angeles from Arjun Manglorkar's yard was another second fancy, who nailed cold colours to the mast, donkey-licking her 14 rivals including the strongly fancied Multisided from Darius Byramji's yard in the upper division of the Indradhanush Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs.  Despite the fact that she was making her debut, the Darius ward on the strength of her impressive mock race and her subsequent pleasing performances on the trial track was fancied most, but all she did was take a lot of good money down the drain failing to even make the board. It is learnt that Multisided burst her blood vessels during the race, but the fact remains, even if Multisided had raced nice and clean with no issues, she would not have beaten Angeles, who proved too good on the given day. Angeles appears a goodtype of youngster and on the strength of this stylish victory is certain to graduate and make her presence felt against higher rated rivals in the weeks ahead. The bred in the purple Multisided is best left ignored after her costly failure.

A smart last start winner, Ineffable from Mohd.Sajid's yard registered her second stright success, coming up trumps in the Shimsha Plate run over a distance of 1100 metres. The five to one second choice hit the from soon after the 10 contestants came under the starter's flag and never let the initiative slip, edging out the on-money favourite I Can, a `head' separating the two at the wire. Kiran Rai astride I Can did produce his best but that was just not good enough to stop the Sajid ward from providing an encore to the delight of her supporters. Apprentice jockey Aniket kept his cool and under pressure from the favourite in the final 50 metres produced a gutsy hands and heels effort to gain  the day. Ochre managed to save money in place, while D Thirteen Eleven completed the frame.

Tenali, who failed to land a big gamble in his last essay, made ample amends, winning the Ranga Family Cup in a thriller from the lesser fancied Spiritual Force partnered by Shreyas Singh. The runner-up, it appeared was in line to upset the applecart of the strongly backed Tenali, before Tenali in the hands of Kiran Rai unleashed a winning gallop in the final furlong to win close home. Real Show caught the eye while finishing third and is one for the notebook.

In the opening event, the Penambur Plate run over a mile, Udukai from the stables of Michael Eshwer recorded a shock win edging out the favourite Elite Agent. The winner was piloted by four-kilo claimer Koshi Kumar who recorded his second victory. Game Boy from Bipin Salvi's yard finished third ahead of Saro Bird. Elite Agent in defeat was not disgraced and this Narayan Gowda trainee  is certain to earn his cornbill in the month ahead.

A sharp shower before the final race resulted in the stewards of the Mysore Race Club rightly deciding to hold the second division of the Indradhanush Plate before the first race on Thursday. Seventh Samurai from Arjun Manglorkar's yard and the Prithviraj schooled Rembrandt are fancied most in this event and the `Jodi' appears safe.
