Visiting jockey Suraj Narredu was in his element on Tuesday as he guided home a well-backed treble much to the delight of his innumerable followers at Calcutta. In the main event, The Argiano Cup, Aashay Doctor’s four-year-old gelding True Marshal (Roderic O’Connor  - Lombardia) made every post a winning one to win by six long lengths from Morning Star. This was a chance ride for Suraj as Akshay Kumar was absent at this centre due to an injury suffered at Hyderabad the day before.

Earlier Suraj had guided home Bharath Singh-trained Jawai (Top Class-Kabini) to a measured victory over Swift Lady in The Arcade Handicap. The stipes came down heavily on the trainer and rider of Angel Light – Sabeel Sharif and Arman Khan respectively. They were fined Rs 50,000/- each for unsatisfactory handling of Angel Light. The stipes were busy in the next race as well, the Eastern Star Handicap, as jockey P. Tejeshwar was fined Rs 25,000 for indifferent handling of the favourite Pyrgos who finished on the outer railing. In the latter race, Vikash Jaiswal’s Yuvi(Excellent Art-Scholastic Giant) with Vinay Jaiswal in the saddle returned victorious. Owner-mate of the winner – Tropical Lady – was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Suraj completed his treble with Rajesh Narredu-trained Good Tip (Roderic O’ Connor -Mahatej) who won the Mercury Handicap effortlessly to record back-to-back wins at this centre. The afternoon commenced with the on-money public choice Rimel (Ampere-Unquenchable) making every post a winning one. The B Mahesh ward was piloted by P Sai Kumar. Mandolin ran on to figure second.

The afternoon’s winner with the highest odds was Eastside at 5/1. The Daniel David-trained seven-year-old mare by Arabian Gulf out of Khursanyah won comfortably in the hands of Saqlain. Lord Lucifer ran on second while the favourite Gael was never in it. The other fancied runner Lion Queen was poorly handled and an enquiry has been opened by the stipes.
