By Ikram Khan | 05 Oct 2023 | MYSORE

Mr Sarosh Mody & trainer M Eshwer leading Ferretti (Y S Srinath up), winner of The Hotel R R R Trophy

Fresh from his success in the Deccan Derby at Malakpet (Hyderabad) on  Monday, top saddle artiste Suraj Narredu booted home public rage Shamrock without raising a sweat in the Rajkumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Trophy, the plum event run over a mile on Thursday. The short-priced on-money favourite, who was relegated to third place after finishing second behind Agnostic in his last essay at this centre, proved too good for his eight rivals powering home in record time (1:33.45) bettering the existing mark (1:33.54) registered by the Parvati Byramji schooled Ravishing Form last year.

Shamrock travelling nice and easy in the hands of Suraj tracked the two early leaders, Havelock Cruise and Moon's Blessing for most part of the trip before he assumed command at the top of the straight and quickly put the race to bed without unduly extending himself. Forseti from Prasanna Kumar's yard followed the smart winner home, while the Rakesh-trained Prince Corporate finished third ahead of Segera. The winner under the care of Satish Narredu, it appears is at his best and it will pay to again support him next time out. Forseti has improved most after his lacklustre effort on the second day of the season and it will not be long before this Prasanna trainee earns his cornbill.

The Michael Eshwer-trained Ferretti, in line for a hat-trick, a smashing last start winner Benghazi from the stables of Appachu and advantageously placed in at the scales, Land Of Gold from Rakesh's yard were fancied most in the principal added attraction, the Hotel RRR Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. Land Of Gold opened the favourite at (18/10) before money once again came pouring in on Benghazi partnered by Angad. The Appachu ward  backed down from (11/4) TO (16/10) produced his best, but that was just not good enough to stop Ferretti from recording a deserving hat-trick in the hands of top `Knight' Srinath. Angad astride the strongly backed public choice, who finished third behind Land Of Gold lodged a protest against Srinath for cutting across his mount 100 metres from home and as a result he was forced to stop riding and this costed him the race. The stipes and stewards not impressed rightly overruled the protest.

A smart last start winner, The King NI from the stables of veteran trainer Warren Singh registered his second straight victory in style, making every post a winning one in the Meerut Plate run over 1100 metres. The winner piloted by four-kilo claimer Koshi Kumar was offered at (7/2), most pinning their hopes on the Neil Devaney-trained Devils Magic who closed even-money favourite after opening at (2/1). The public choice piloted by the promising apprentice Inayat found The King NI too hot to handle and had to rest content with the second spot, edging out another fancied contestant Lauterbrunnen close home. On a dry and fast track, The King NI like Shamrock won in record time (1:03.52), bettering the effort of Saigar (1:04.26) registered in 2016. The King NI is in rousing form and is set to complete a hat-trick of wins if his connections place him well in his next start.

The Pradeep Annaiah-trained High Opinion came up trumps in the concluding event, the upper division of the Jaganmohana Palace Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The lesser fancied grey piloted in copybook fashion by Kolkata-based pro Hindu Singh assumed command at the distance post and gallantly pegged back the belated effort of the second in demand at the betting ring Super Gladiator. The favourite Peluche from Imtiaz Khan's yard partnered by John raised hopes midway up the straight before finishing a tame third.

The lower division of the race was also claimed by a grey, Hindu Singh packing punch on the well supported Sekhmet to the delight of the Kishan Thomas camp. Cinco De Mayo impressed most while gaining the runner-up spot ahead of Embosom, while the second favourite Eco Friendly raced in patches and only managed to complete the frame.

Elevado who recently joined Bipin Salvi's string was fancied most in the upper division of the Coorg Plate run over a sprint and the overwhelming favourite produced a winning gallop in the hands of Shreyas Singh to the delight of the Bipin camp. Star Azeem who had his fair share of supporters finished a game second, while Rumour Lady surprised most finishing a good third in the hands of apprentice Tousif. The winner is strongly tipped to score again and Rumour Lady too should earn her winning bracket in the weeks ahead.

The MR Singh schooled Chiraag garnered the maximum support in the lower division, but all that the on-money favourite do was take a lot of good money down the drain finishing third behind the runner-up Perfect Halo. The Prithviraj-trained Apollo Light dropped a bombshell, the rankoutsider returning a rich dividend of Rs 222 on a tenner at the tote window.
