Dr.Vilas B Nanjundappa and Dr Ashwini Narahari present the prestigious Dasara Sprint Championship to winning trainer Rakesh

A top event produced a classic finish and the racing buffs admired and appreciated the intensity and the skills. In a humdinger local lass O Hansini beat the two strongly fancied Bengaluru challengers, All Attractive and Agnostic in the Benaka Developers Mysore Dasara Sprint Championship and the local railbirds delighted with the result provided top artiste Akshay Kumar and champion trainer Rakesh a standing ovation.

Pitted against the in-form All Attractive from trainer Prithviraj's yard and Agnostic from the stables of Kolkata-based pro Bharath Singh, O Hansini had her task cut out in the sprint championship. Accepting the challenge, the star performer produced her best and made Mysore proud. Akshay Kumar produced an exemplary effort on the winner, outwitting John astride All Attractive and Antony Raj guiding the fortunes of Agnostic. While Akshay timed his final challenge in the sprint to a nicety, John blotted his book, stuck behind the two leaders Leather Back and Tom Cruiser for most part in the straight and this cost All Attractive dear, the public choice going down by the shortest of margins to O Hansini. And Agnostic in a thiller finished only a `neck' behind the runner-up All Attractive.

"O Hansini is a gusty filly and she consistently produces her best. She did it again today and I'm most pleased with the result. Akshay's exemplary effort made the difference," said Rakesh pointing out that quality efforts from the stock at the Mysore campus against Bangalore rivals provides a shot in-the-arm for the professionals at this centre.

Akshay Kumar earlier booted home Vijaya Falcon in the principal added attraction, the Urs Kar Trophy. The second in demand at the betting ring produced a sparkling gallop in the final furlong to snuff out the challenge of the lesser fancied Tracer Bullet and score in style. The favourite Indian Patriot from Rakesh's yard reportedly burst his blood vessels during the race and finished off the frame. The Joseph Awale schooled winner is on top of his game and is set to provide an encore.

The Faraz Arshad-trained Armstrong it is clear lacks the ability to land a killer punch. After he narrowly missed out, going down in a blanket finish after calling the shots for 1,599 metres of the 1600 metres trip in his last essay, Armstrong again hit the front and looked set to enter the winners' circle before the second in demand at the betting ring, Benghazi produced an astounding gallop to overhaul the public choice close home. Winter Storm, stablemate of the winner from Appachu's yard finished a creditable third and it will not be long before this mare earns her cornbill.

After a couple of listless efforts, Fortunatus from Imtiaz Khan's yard produced a smart effort in the concluding event to come up tops in the upper division of the Lokapavani Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The four-kilo claimer Pavan hit the front on the five to one shot the moment the dozen runners came under the starter's flag and never let the initiative slip easily beating the heavily backed Magic Circle, who beat the rest by a widening margin of eight lengths, but found Fortunatus too hot to handle on this day.Now that Fortunatus has broken ice it will pay to support this Imtiaz trainee again in his next attempt.

Tejaswi who had struck it rich on Fifty Grand on Thursday brought off another successful coup, the strongly supported Sultan Sword coming up tops in the opening event, the Lalithmahal Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The winner was backed down from (4/1) to (2/1), while Double Vision who opened favourite at (6/4) was freely available at (9/4). The MR Singh ward piloted by Shreyas Singh produced his best but against a much superior `Sultan' this was not good enough and Double Vision had to rest content with the runner-up berth. Royal Title managed to save money in place while Pette's Choice completed the frame.

The lesser fancied Solid Power brought the smile back on the face of MR Singh winning the lower division of the Lokapavani Plate in the hands of Salman Khan. Last start winner Elevado garnered the maximum support, but he in his effort to register his second straight success found one better much to the disappointment of his supporters. Natural Hunter finished a creditable third and is one for the notebook.

Appachu who is enjoying a fine run this season was all smiles leading in Kingofthejungle in the Triveni Plate run over a sprint. The winner was backed down from (9/4) to (80/100) and to the delight of the Appachu camp Kingofthejungle bolten in by a facile margin of more than four lengths  to the delight of all the big bettors who had readily invested big on the Appaachu ward who on the strength of this performance is tipped to score when saddled next. Spiritual Force followed the winner home, while Ineffable took the third spot.
