AASHAY’S STOCKBRIDGE SLAMS RIVALS

By Epsom Ace | 18 Oct 2023 | KOLKATA

Trainer Aashay Doctor leading Stockbridge (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Arktouros Cup

Available at lucrative odds of 3/1, Aashay Doctor’s Stockbridge left the opposition standing in the seven-furlong race for The Arktouros Cup. Despite running after a break of seven months, the five-year-old son of Speaking of Which out of Sheryl was produced on the track in picture perfect conditionby his mentor. In his post-race comments, Aashay mentioned that he thought the trip might be a little sharp for his ward “ but as he was very fresh, ithelped his cause”. Kudos to him and jockey Suraj Narredu  for riding a copybook race. Suraj allowed stablemate Hidden Gold to call the shots till the straight and subsequently took over the running to win as he liked. It was a well-planned coup by the connections! The three top-weights were never in it but the run will bring them on.

Trainer Bharath Singh combined fruitfully with ace jockey P. Trevor to bring home the bacon with a well-backed treble. Their winners were Rocket Man, Mezcal and Sonata.  Both Mezcal and Sonata were available at very playable odds of 2/1. Top-weight Acrobat issued a challenge to Sonata midway up the straight but Trevor kept the daughter of Win Legend out of Bold Reply going under the stick to make the 2000 metres  race for the Avaglow Handicap her own. Acrobat is one for the notebook.

In the 1100metres race for the Supernova Handicap,  Trevor allowed a host of front-running speedsters to lead the way till the distance post where he put his mount Mezcal into top gear on the wide outside and the five-year-old mare by Western Aristocrat out of Amber Valley responded magnificently to sail past top-weight Dr Doom who is another one for the notebook.Trevor’s first winner was Rocket Man – a three-year-old by Planetaire out of Perfect Tribute - in the day’s opener. The on-money public choice quite easily accounted for pace-setter Sea Dragon.

Two more three-year-old on-moneyfavourites obliged in the next two races. Christopher Alford-trained Nautica (Dandified-On Fleek) made every post a winning one in the race for the Citi Limits Handicaps. She was piloted by Nikhil Naidu. In the very next race run over seven furlongs, top-weight filly Burmese (Multidimensional-Skylight Express) from Rajesh Narredu’s yard was a facile winner in the hands of brother Suraj. It is left to be seen whether she will be entered for the Monsson Derby next week.Angel Light from Sabeel Shariff’s stable seems to be shrouded in controversy as an enquiry has been opened into her run. For those unaware, the same rider and trainer were fined heavily after their earlier effort with her.
