NARREDUS CONTINUE TO DOMINATE

By Ikram Khan | 20 Oct 2023 | MYSORE

Mr M Ravi & trainer Satish Narredu leading Shamrock (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Governor's Cup

You got to doff your hat to the Narredus. They have dominated racing this winter, be it at Pune, Mysore, Hyderabad and Chennai. Apart from winning the Deccan Derby at Malakpet and the Pune Derby, the Narredus are picking up races left, right and centre and bar the Western India champion Pesi Shroff, the Narredu juggernaut has steamrolled the rest. It is not simply that they have more number of horses or that they in their yard have the best bred horses compared to the rest. It simply is the 3-D approach, dedication, devotion and determination which is bringing home the desired results. Many in the sport have the ability and capability, but lack the dedication and determination to get to the next level and in support of the Narredus, it must be mentioned that all the hard work is now paying-off big time and it will continue, taking into account that all in the family are pressing the right buttons and ticking all the boxes to attain the mind boggling strike rate at all the premier racing centres.

Satish Narredu proudly led in three winners at Mysore on Friday including Shamrock, the winner of the Governor's Trophy. Deepesh and Yash, next day combined effectively to record a grand double at Guindy after Yash and his dad Mallesh uncorked a champagne effort in the Pune Derby, Enabler convincingly beating the public rage and Bangalore Derby winner Jamari. Suraj to say the least is on a roll adding a couple of classics to his distinguished list and Rajesh after proudly leading in Synthesis is striking it rich in Kolkata too.

At Mysore astride Fearless Joey in the opening event, the Spectacular Quest Plate, Suraj produced another sterling effort to help the fancied contestant record a hat-trick. The winner on the strength of his two straight victories was strongly supported to make it three in-a-row and Fearless Joey readily justified the confidence of his supporters while maintaining his winning streak. Bruce Almighty finished second ahead of the Darius Byramji-trained Irish Rockstar who performed below par.

Next Satish led in Eternal Princess, winner of the AR Subramanya Raj Urs Memorial Trophy run over a sprint. The speedy customer in the hands of apprentice Siddaraju showed a clean pair of heels to her 10 rivals including the public choice Aldgate who in the hands of John failed to even finish in the frame. Last start winner Kingofthejungle followed Eternal Princess home, while Michigan Melody did well to save money in place.

Satish sent out the public rage Shamrock spot on in the Governor's Cup and the in-form contestant provided Suraj an arm-chair ride to success, powering home without working up a sweat over the 2000M long trip. Shubankar from the stables of Warren Singh gained the runner-up berth ahead of last start winner Kushaq. The winner, it must be mentioned is in rousing form and is set to record a hat-trick, when saddled next.

Lesser fancied Worldly Wise from Darius Byramji's yard came up tops in the upper division of the Sunderbans Plate run over a sprint. The winner piloted by Saqlain, who it  must be mentioned lacks the consistency required to remain in the winners' circle, upset the applecart of the strongly fancied overwhelming favourite Elvedan from  the stables of Arjun Manglorkar. The public choice had impressed most in the morning trials and more importantly in his final preparatory gallop, but in his first test he failed to live upto the early promise, finishing more than six lengths behind the surprise winner. Seoul followed Worldly Wise home, while Treasure Chest from Dominic's yard after winning his last start did well to finish a creditable third.

The lower division of the event was claimed by the favourite The Grey Geranium from Sharath Kumar's yard who is enjoying a good run at this centre. The winner fancied strongly by the insiders and the right connections produced a sparkling gallop in the hands of Naveen to cruise home without really extending himself and on the strength of this performance is set to provide an encore. Jersey Legend finished second ahead of Chiraag who is likely to gain his winning bracket if his connections choose to again race him in the Derby week-end.

The seven to one shot Royal Title from Dinesh Pujar's yard proved good in the Yadavgiri Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. Unity from Santosh Rao's yard was fancied most in this event, but she only managed to finish a tame third behind the runner-up Against All Odds. White Lies, stablemate of Royal Title caught the eye while finishing a suggestive fourth and is one for the note book.
