O HANSINI WINS PLUM IN HUMDINGER

Trainer Rakesh leading O Hansini (Akshay Kumar Up), winner of The Mysore Race Club Anniversary Cup (Sponsored by Mysore Bookmakers)

The best  filly in the Mysore campus, O Hansini from champion trainer Rakesh's yard has turned into a giant killer. A couple of weeks back the top local heroine beat the strongly fancied Bangalore challenger All Attractive and on Derby eve she again produced another stellar effort in the Mysore Race Club Anniversary Cup to down the Rajesh Narredu schooled Priceless Gold in a humdinger. Top saddle artiste Akshay Kumar partnered the in-form lass on both occasions and Akshay, it must be mentioned was at his best, stealing a march at a crucial juncture and holding onto the advantage gained at end. All credit to Rakesh for keeping the filly in top condition all through the last two seasons and O Hansini proved that she has the ability and quality to beat the best over sprints in the highest class.

Next astride the Prasanna Kumar schooled Mighty Zo, fancied most in the Bottolonda Trophy run over a mile, Akshay Kumar needed to pull out all stops to drive home the overwhelming public choice to a convincing victory. Second in demand at the betting ring, Angeles from Arjun Manglorkar's yard expectedly finished second ahead of Parker, while Armstrong completed the frame. A smart last start winner Benghazi was never in the hunt and finished way down the field and this surprised most taking into account that the Appachu ward had won twice from his three earlier starts this season.

The Tejaswi schooled Leopard was backed to the exclusion of her 10 rivals in the concluding event, the lower division of the Sharan Lakshmanan Memorial Trophy and the heavily backed topweighted contestant made it look easy making every post a winning one in fine style. Seolfor Bullet followed the winner home ahead of D Don King, while Beautiful Oblivion who had impressed most in her last essay, finishing a game second behind O Manchali failed to display her true potential, for more reasons than one and finished in the ruck.

The upper division of the event was claimed by the lesser fancied Mystic Divine from Monnappa's yard partnered by G Vivek. A coup on D Warrior from  Tejaswi's yard flopped, the strongly supported favourite finishing last, while Mystic Divine powered home to the delight of her supporters. Maybury finished second ahead of Anushtubha who was fancied in place.

After the bad loss of D Warrior, a smart last start winner Sultan Sword brought the smile back on the face of Tejaswi recording his second straight victory. The well supported winner of the Sri Sashachalam Memorial Trophy produced another stellar effort in the hands of Angad to the delight of his large following. Pette's Choice gained the runner-up spot ahead of Athulya. The winner is in rousing form and is set to complete a hat-trick of wins in the winter season.

Suraj Narredu had it easy on Star Concept, the public choice outclassing his 11 rivals in the R M Puttanna Memorial Trophy run over a sprint. Crosswater found the winner too hot to handle and had to rest content with the runner-up berth. Chillilady from Warren Singh's yard had the credentials to extend Star Concept, but it was clear that the `Lady' lacked the spice and the connections too didn't provide the spicy `Tadka' to make a race of it.

In line for a hat-trick this season, the in-form Iron Clad was again supported to come good in the HP Vishwanathan Memorial Trophy and the favourite brilliantly piloted by ;leading pro Srinath justified the confidence of his supporters, producing a sparkling gallop past the distance post to maintain his winning streak. Second in demand at the betting ring, Clever Hans warmed up late and was seen finishing on fastest at end, but that belated effort was just not good enough to stop Iron Clad from making it four in-a-row.
