Trainer R Ramanathan deputising for trainer James Mckeown leading Starkova (P Trevor up), winner of The Gardefu Handicap

Punters returned home evens-stevens, three favourites including the public rage Starkova quoted at a miserly price (50/100) coming through in the small six-event cars on Friday. Competing in  the Gardefu Handicap run over a mile, Starkova was touted a `moral certainty' on the strength of her blazing performances in the morning trials and the James McKeown ward provided leading pro Trevor Patel an arm-chair ride to success, donkey-licking her rivals by more than eight lengths to the delight of her connections. The winner on the strength of this emphatic effort is certain to provide an encore. Stablemate Jahzara followed the public rage home, while Edmund surprised most finishing third.

The Govindrajan-trained Renegade, Tycoonist from Vijay Singh's yard and Spectacle from the stables of Deepesh Narredu topped the betting board before Renegade closed first favourite in the Fastnet Rock Handicap. The public choice powerfully piloted by G Vivek produced a winning gallop at the all-important end to  score from Illustrious Ruler, who edged out Shez A Star, a `neck' separating the two at the wire. Tycoonist after tracking the winner all through the seven furlongs trip lacked the gas in the tank and only managed to finish fourth, while Spectacle raced in patches and finished off the frame.

Spurred by the success, Govindrajan and Vivek combined successfully again to strike it rich in the next event through the 15 to one long shot Mayflower. Excellent Star from Ramanathan's yard was fancied most in the Woodpecker Handicap run over a sprint, but the strongly supported public choice failed in his mission to snuff out the challenge of the winner. Rankoutsider Wild Frank, stablemate of Mayflower caught the eye finishing on strongly at end to claim the third spot and it will pay to support this Govindrajan trainee when saddled next.

Senora Bianca was another strongly fancied runner from trainer Ramanathan's yard who bit the dust in the concluding event, the Kodiac Handicap run over 1000M dash.  The favourite piloted by Umesh was in a favourable position before the mare found the first three too hot to handle much to the chagrin of her supporters. Constant Variable in the hands of Abhay Singh made it a deserving start to finish affair pegging back Angel Heart who finished on strongly and is one for the notebook.

Earlier, the Anil Kumar schooled Kikata finally earned his long due winning bracket coming up tops in the Mizzen Mast Handicap run over a sprint. The winner piloted in copybook fashion by Saqlain produced a sparkling gallop in the final furlong to overhaul the leader Ashwa Dev and romp home a convincing winner. Sacre Couer did well to gain the runner-up berth and it will pay to keep an eye on this Ramanathan ward in  the weeks ahead. Though Kikata won in impressive style, he may find it difficult to make his presence felt in the higher class.

After she surprised most winning her last start in fine style, the Anil Kumar schooled MSG Fantasy was fancied strongly by the Anil Kumar camp to provide an encore, but this time out the favourite found the second in demand at the betting ring, Dazzling Dynamite too hot to handle and had to rest content with the runner-up berth. Mr Mozart, it appears has improved and is likely to earn his cornbill when next saddled.
