Trainer James Mckeown leading King Louis (C Umesh up), winner of The Sunday Silence Handicap

The James McKeown schooled King Louis after a couple of disappointing efforts came into his own at Guindy on Saturday. The talented colt competing in the Sunday Silence Handicap run over a mile produced his best to outclass his arch rival Forever and his moody stablemate Trevalius while sending out a strong message that all is well with the `King' and he is now ready for a couple of bigger and tougher battles in the months ahead. Leading pro Umesh produced a copybook effort on the winner who beat the favourite Forever by a big margin of five lengths and the facile victory, it is needless to mention will provide the desired confidence and the pluck and guts required to make a mark at the highest level. Trevalius never runs two races alike and worse is that he loves to grace the wrong end of the field, be it competing in a seven furlongs trip or a 2000 metres journey. This McKeown trainee has a mind of his own and no Trevor Patel or a Osin Murphy can get him do all things right, simply because he never races with the right frame of mind.

Wonderful from Deepesh Narredu's yard was fancied most in the Galway Handicap run over a distance of seven furlongs, but the public choice met a tartar in Windsor Walk who in the hands of apprentice jockey Ram Nandan Manjhi bolted in to the surprise of the followers of form. Second in demand at the betting ring, Choice edged out the public choice to gain the runner-up berth, a `neck' separating the two at the wire. Windsor Walk on the strength of this performance is set to provide an encore, while Choice who is not knocking, but banging the door is likely to earn his winning bracket in the weeks ahead.

Sheer Rocks from Sebastian's yard who let down large following in his last essay again took a lot of good money down the drain, finishing four lengths behind the winner Bertha piloted by Yash Narredu in the concluding event, the Clarion Handicap run over a sprint. Despite the fact that Sheer Rocks has failed to justify favouritism a number of times, punters foolishly continue to support this Sebastian ward who only performs admirably in the morning trials. Bay Of Naples surprised most finishing third ahead of  King Sun and is one for the notebook.

Earlier, the favourite Presto Power from Ramanathan's yard proved too good in the opening event, the Sultan Handicap. The winner piloted by the promising apprentice Koshi Kumar tracked the leader Ocean Love for most part of the 1000M dash before Koshi pushed him ahead at the top of the straight and the moment he shot ahead it was all over bar the shouting. Ocean Love hung on to finish second ahead of Daiyamondo, while The Sting completed the frame.

Deepesh and Yash combined effectively to strike it rich on Aspira in the upper division of the Lorenzaccio Handicap run over a sprint. The overwhelming favourite and another top fancy Smash Shot from Anil Kumar's yard stormed ahead in the final furlong to dispute the issue after Relic Warrior shot his bolt and retired from the fray in the final furlong. It was advantage Smash Shot till Aspira powerfully piloted by Yash gained the verdict at the shadow of the winning post. The runner-up owned by Smita Bajoria, who proudly led in the Calcutta Derby winner Destroyer last week, in defeat was not disgraced and lives to fight another day.

The on-money favourite Gimmler brought the smile back on the face of Anil Kumar, winning the lower division of the event in resplendent style. The winner who was head and shoulders above his 10 rivals while justifying his top billing provided leading pro Chouhan an arm-chiar ride to success. And on the strength of this performance the talented colt is tipped to register his second straight success when saddled next. Marquita followed the winner home, while Confidential managed to pick up money in place.
