Smt Kamal K Srivastava presenting the Srikishan Memorial Million to trainer Dominic after Phoenomenon (Antony Raj up) won the event

It's all happening at the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC). And the horse owners are appreciating it. The new management committee has roped in good number of sponsors for the winter season and for the first time this winter more than 10 million races will be framed for two-year-old youngsters and that's a good sign taking into account that most clubs including RWITC are finding it hard to get good promoters on board to provide the glitz and glamour to the sport of kings.

Committee member Dayanand Mandre in-charge of promotions and sponsorships is knocking at all the right doors and ticking all the key boxes in his effort to net the big fish required to take the game to the next level. And going by the response, passionate promoters willing to provide the support, BTC, it appears is now on  a good wicket ready to play the big shots in the effort to scale a new high.

The first Million this winter was sponsored by Srivastava family. The Srikishan Srivatsava Memorial Million on Saturday attracted four colts and a solitary filly Sapient from Aravind Ganapathy's yard. The Dominic-trained Phoenomenon piloted by Antony Raj emerged the first juvenile winner. And all credit to Dominic who last year led in the first winner by Sir Cecil and today he struck it rich, proudly leading in the first winner of Dreamfield from the Akal Sahai Stud Farm. Prakash, Sanjay and Deepak Srivatsava immensely pleased with the buzz and the nostalgia the event generated promised to make it bigger and that brought cheer to the mandarins of the club, who in the months ahead will need to punch above their weight to keep the sport going on an even keel.

Fresh from her success on Derby day at Mysore, the speedy Polished Girl proved too good in the Bangalore Turf Club Trophy run over a sprint. Top gun Suraj Narredu pushed the four to one shot ahead, the moment half-dozen contestants came under the starter's flag and the Rajesh Narredu trainee never let the initiative slip, showing a clean pair of heels to her five rivals. The public choice All Attractive from Prithviraj's yard partnered by Imran Khan performed like a dud and finished ahead of the last one home, Sovereign Orb. The in-form O Hansini from the stables of Mysore champion Rakesh produced  another stellar effort to gain the runner-up berth ahead of Priceless Gold, while Isnt She Beautiful from Imtiaz Khan's yard who was fancied sweetly in place disappointed, only managing to complete the frame. The winner is on top of her game and is set to complete a hat-trick of wins when saddled next.

The talented Prana from Prasanna Kumar's yard justified his top billing producing a winning gallop at the all-important end to peg back the lesser fancied Victoria Punch in the Smarty Jones Plate run over a mile. The winner at a crucial juncture was stuck on the rails behind the two early leaders Cyrenius and Kalamitsi, but the moment he got an opening it was all over bar the shouting though Victoria Punch rallied brilliantly to extend the overwhelming favourite piloted by Akshay Kumar.

Akshay who had earlier scored on the second in demand at the betting ring, Galahad in the upper division of the V Venugopal Naidu Memorial Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs booted home another top fancy Marzgovel in the lower division of the event to record a grand treble. Galahad and Marzgovel helped leading trainer Sulaiman Attaollahi record a good double after Il Volo found Phoenomenon too hot to handle in the Million.

Champions Way garnered the maximum support. The public choice piloted by Suraj hit the front at the top of the straight and looked good to score before Akshay put Galahad in top gear and the grey responding gamely to his master's call produced a winning gallop in the final furlong to romp home a deserving winner. Champions Way held on to the runner-up berth, a `nose' separating him from Philosophy, who impressed most, back after a long lay-off. Philosophy, it must b mentioned lost a couple of lengths at the start before Neeraj Rawal pushed the Imtiaz Khan ward to join the front group. Philosophy with this run under her belt will prove to be a different proposition next time out.

In line for a treble, Akshay astride Marzgovel took no chances, hitting the front and comfortably making every post a winning one to the delight of the followers of form. Lesser fancied Nikolina from Prasanna Kumar's yard finished on purposefully at end to gain the runner-up berth ahead of the Pradeep Annaiah schooled Macron who was heavily backed by the insiders and the right connections.

On the strength of her impressive second behind Victoria Doresni on the opening day, the Imtiaz Khan-trained Regal Aristocracy was backed to the exclusion of her 11 rivals in the Phar Lap Plate run over a mile, but the piping hot favourite after showing the way for most part of the mile long journey failed to match strides with the four to one shot Stravinsky from Irfan Ghatala's yard and had to settle for the second spot.

The well fancied Pneuma from Prasanna Kumar's yard donkey-licked his 10 rivals in the Shivanasamudra Falls Plate. The winner piloted by Saqlain made it clear that he dosen't belong to this class, winning by a huge margin of dozen lengths and is certain to win again in the higher category. Isabelle who had finished second on the opening day again followed the winner ahead of another fancied contestant Star Concept, while Dynamic Forced filled the frame.
