Caprese has impressive credentials

Jaggy Dhariwal trained Caprese goes into the Gr.1 Fillies Trial Stakes, the first classic of the season, with a good race record. The daughter of Burden of Proof should relish the underfoot conditions and give a bold show. Though the race appears to have an open look about it with Romantic Liaision and Ganapathy's trio of Silken Star, Scintillating Skill and Go For Gold eminently capable of upsetting everyone's calculations, it is the performance of Caprese in the Gr.2 Karnataka Juvenile Million where she finished an impressive fourth despite appearing rusty is what enhances her credentials. Caprese won both her outings in the winter season in a manner that was suggestive of classic potential. She did not show out in any of her workouts when she ran against a tough opposition in the Karnataka Million. But she ran a fair race in adverse underfoot conditions and was not far away from the surprise winner Yes Es Yes Ses. Caprese has put on good condition and her final workout was eye-catching. Caprese's credentials are further enhanced by the manner in which Admiral's Force won in his next outing over a sprint, a trip reckoned to be too sharp for his breeding. Admiral Force has done the job of a pace-maker and had finished a few lengths adrift of Caprese. Added to the fact that Caprese has never been a showy performer on the sand track, one expects a significant lift in her performance level after a tough run against a quality field. Vijay Singh trained Romantic Liaision also did not impress well in her paddock appearance last time out but the manner in which she won the mile long race brought her into strong focus. Though she can relish longer trips, the ease with which she quickened is what enhances the value of her win. Comparitively, Caprese took on a better lot of horses and as such, it is difficult to read too much into Romantic Liaison's victory. Romantic Liaison beat The Peak and Ministry of Sound which does not count for much unless one evaluates the Calcutta challenger independently of the opposition she beat. Prakash has chosen to ride Silken Star who went down to Talk of the Devil in a handicap race earlier in the season. Silken Star is well bred and on the last occasion, she tired out. Since that defeat, Silken Star has been blazing the track and this perhaps must have made Prakash cohose this horse ahead of Scintillating Skill and Go For Gold. Scintillating Skill who is a full sister to Bay of Angels who won the Gr.1 Stayers Cup a few years ago, won her preparatory race over seven furlongs competently though the manner of her running suggested that she is a horse who would be happier going over a mile and half trip. The best performer among the Ganapathy trio is Go For Gold. Though she has the breeding to go further than the six furlong trip that she has essayed in all but one run, she is being tested over this mile trip for the first time. She is an accomplished performer and considering the fact that she has the speed and the breeding to stay the mile long trip, Go For Gold should be considered as the dark un in the fray. Though there is a great deal of hope on Michael Eshwer's Queen of Swords, she may need time to come into her own.
