PUNTERS ENJOY BETTER OF EXCHANGE

Trainer Prasanna Kumar leading Pneuma (S Saqlain Up), winner of The Dharmaprakasha L S Venkaji Rao Memorial Trophy

Form played true again and the punters enjoyed the better of exchanges at the bookmakers ring. A facile last start winner, albeit in the lower category, the Prasanna Kumar schooled Pneuma was fancied most in the Dharmaprakasha L S Venkaji Rao Memorial Trophy, the plum event and the in-form leading contestant produced another stellar effort in the hands of talented Saqlain to record his second straight success. Pneuma on the strength of this victory looks good to record a hat-trick of wins taking into account that he didn't really extend himself in this winning exercise. The topweighted Fondness Of You partnered by top saddle artiste Suraj Narredu followed the winner home, while the advantageously placed at the scales Nyaya finished third ahead of Leather Back.

Suraj, who shared the professional honours with Antony Raj and the two leading trainers Prasanna and Irfan Ghatala, recording a double apiece, had it easy on the on-money favourite Excellent Ray after he stretched every sinew to boot home the well supported second choice Victoria Punch in the Chatrapathi Plate run over a distance of nine furlongs. Ruling Dynasty from Prasanna's yard opened hot favourite in this event before money came pouring in on Victoria Punch and as a result Ruling Dynasty after opening on-money favourite was offered at (13/10), while Victoria Punch was backed down to (6/4) before the small field of four runners came under the starter's flag for the nine furlong journey. After The grey Shubankar set a decent pace all through the backstretch and kept going well into the straight before Suraj pulled out all stops and punched the Irfan ward to get the  measure of the front runner and sail home a deserving winner. Ruling Dynasty was a beaten horse even before negotiating the final curve and this surprised many of his supporters who strongly fancied him to come good after his excellent effort behind the Derby winner Touch Of Grey in his last effort at Mysore.

Later Suraj astride Excellent Ray didn't really need to move a muscle, the top fancy making every post a winning one in the upper division of the Haveri Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The top weighted Maroon who also had his fair share of supporters tracked the public choice for most part of the journey, but the moment Suraj provided Excellent Ray his head, the overwhelming public choice stretched out well to romp home in fine style. Maroon again  finished second ahead of Chisox, while Lady Invictus completed the frame.

After guiding home the public choice Indian Blues to a convincing victory in the opening event, the lower division of the Haveri Plate, Antony Raj produced a copybook effort on the heavily backed Southernaristocrat in the concluding event, the Bidadi Stakes run over a distance of seven furlongs. The winner opened at (9/4) in the betting ring before his supporters slammed him down to (5/4) before the start of the final event. A confident Antony chose to track the ten to one shot Star Citizen for most part of the trip before he assumed command at the distance post and then quickly put the race to bed in the final furlong. Star Citizen did well to hang on and claim the runner-up berth ahead of Marco Polo, while Mega Success finished a fair fourth. Akasi and Elite Agent were the two other contestants who were expected to give Southernaristocrat a run for the money, but they performed below par and even failed to save money in place.

In a thrilling finish, the Irfan Ghatala-trained Isabelle piloted in determined fashion by Alex Rozario edged out Bold Act from Satish Narredu's yard and Chilli Lady from the stables of Warren Singh. The winner on the strength of her suggestive effort in her last essay, second behind Pneuma did garner good support, but it was Chilli Lady who was the rage in the betting ring, but much to the disappointment of her supporters, the Warren Singh ward failed to beat Isabelle and Bold Act and had to rest content with the third spot. Isabelle edged out Bold Act, a `head' separating the two, and Chillilady was `neck' behind Bold Act at the post. Both the runner-up and the public choice should be persisted with and the duo will strike in the weeks ahead.

The Neil Devaney schooled Top Dancer was the only winner who surprised the followers of form, reigning supreme in the Belgaum Plate run over a mile. The ten to one long shot piloted by Vivek stole a march at the top of the straight and romped home in fine style. Another long shot Sea Blush from Pradeep Annaiah's yard partnered by Hindu Singh  gained the runner-up berth ahead of Aircraft, while the favourite Own Legacy from  Ganapathy's stable after calling the shots for most part of the mile long trip packed up at the top of the straight and finished last much to the chagrin of her large following who fancied her to score on the strength of her impressive essay behind Prime Abbess in her last start.
