Trainer Satish Narredu leading Touch Of Grey (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of Vaishnavi Bangalore 2000 Guineas (Gr.2)

The Narredus maintained their classic winning streak, the classy Touch Of Grey recording a hat-trick of classic wins after winning the 2000 Guineas and the Derby at Mysuru. Judiciously prepared by Satish Narredu and brilliantly piloted by top gun Suraj Narredu, the overwhelming favourite Touch Of Grey beat his arch rival Knotty Charmer in convincing fashion and after his third straight classic victory will compete next in the colts classic at Guindy to post a Grand Slam.

Suraj was at his brilliant best on the star performer. He simply outwitted Antony Raj astride Knotty Charmer, while providing an object lesson on saddle artistry and strategy to the many young hopefuls in line to don the silks. Suraj first chose to stay ahead of Knotty Charmer understanding that the talented Prasanna Kumar ward, winner of the Colts Championship Stakes in summer enjoys racing in front. While negotiating the final curve Suraj quickly pushed Touch Of Grey and stole the first run on his principal rival, who needed to shift out before making his final assault. Though
Knotty Charmer covered ground and closed on the winner, it was clear that Suraj had prepared and followed the blueprint to success, while Antony was outfoxed by the more experienced and far superior saddle artiste. The Mumbai challenger Chagall caught the eye finishing a creditable third ahead of Marzgovel, while the early leader Mazal Tov was disqualified after it was found that he dropped the weights he was required to shoulder during the race.

The on-money favourite Santorino from trainer Irfan Ghatala's yard proved too good in the principal added attraction, the Dr. MAM Ramaswamy Memorial Trophy run over a mile. The in-form winner lost a couple of lengths at the start and Alex Rozario guiding the fortunes of the public choice chose to trail the small field of five runners, Forseti opting out of the event. After the front runners, Inyoubelieve and Cyrenius retired at the top of the straight Suraj streaked ahead on Yukan, but the moment Rozario setalight Santorino it was all over bar the shouting, the public rage to the delight of the followers of form bounding ahead to win in emphatic fashion. Yukan hung on to gain the runner-up berth from Cyrenius, while Kalamitsi, it appears has gone off the boil.

After the loss of Knotty Charmer in the classic, most railbirds chose to pin their hopes on last start winner Indian Blues from Prasanna Kumar's yard hoping that Antony Raj will make amends and bring back the smile on the face of the Prasanna camp. But much to the disappointment of the favourite punters, Indian Blues failed to make an impression all through the upper division of the Krishna Plate run over a sprint and eventually finished in the ruck. The ten to one shot Southern Force in the hands of Imran Chisty, back after his successful sting abroad produced a good turn of foot to romp home a deserving winner. War Trail from MR Singh's yard piloted by Ramu surprised most finishing second ahead of Ombudsman, while Oxytocin completed the frame without really extending herself and is one for the notebook.

The MR Singh schooled Double Vision, who had failed to justify favouritism in her last essay was again strongly fancied to score in the concluding event, the Sutlej Plate run over a mile. The Singh trainee in fact was smashed down from (5/2) to (80/100) and that helped the supporters of Russian Romance again in price, the Neil Devaney ward closing at (4/1) after opening at (16/10). The lesser fancied five to one shot, Raffles from Dominic's

yard hit the front and set a scorching pace all through the backstretch before the two market fancies, Double Vision and Russian Romance shot past the leader approaching the distance post before Naveen packed punch on Russian Romance to reign supreme. Raffles nosed out Sling Shot to finish third behind the heavily backed Double Vision, who it is clear found the mile long trip beyond her compass.

Earlier, Prasanna continued his winning run in the juveniles event, the well fancied Run For The Sun showing a clean pair of heels to his six rivals including the Sulaiman schooled Il Volo, who let down his supporters for the second time in-a-row. Elfin Knight from Darius Byrami's yard finished a game second ahead of Golden Legend, stablemate of the winner, while Il Volo finished a poor fourth.

The Lokanath schooled Step To Destiny was a medium of a king-sized gamble which came good to the delight of all the big bettors, who made big investments on  the winner, backed down from (7/4) to (75/100). Four-kilo claimer Siddaraju confidently piloted the winner who is set to provide an encore. Domina followed the popular winner home ahead of the advantageously placed in at the scales Loving Pearl.

A consistent Breeze Bluster looking for the elusive win and the topweighted Triumphant from Azhar Ali's yard were fancied most in the Linganamakki Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. But it was the 10 to one long shot Ardakan from Darius Byramji's yard who shocked the followers of form in the hands of Arvind Kumar. Breeze Bluster again finished second, while Triumphant managed to save money in place.

Apprentice Siddaraju after his success on Step To Destiny, again struck it rich booting home the second in demand at the betting ring, Anakin from Lokanath Gowda's yard in a thrilling finish. The winner edged out Solo Prince who was in line for a hat-trick in a close finish. Stablemate Ultimate Striker too was seen finishing on well to take the third spot ahead of Classic Charm, while the top fancy Air Display from Inayathullah's  stable performed like a dud and finished in the ruck.
