AMBER KNIGHT BAGS DAY’S FEATURE

By Epsom Ace | 17 Feb 2024 | KOLKATA

Trainer Rajesh Narredu leading Amber Knight (Yash Narredu up), winner of The Exclusive Virtue Cup

Rajesh Narredu-trained Amber Knight(Multidimensional – Ambrosia) recorded his fourth win of the current season with a comprehensive victory over Kiefer in the 2000 metres race for The Exclusive Virtue Cup. Jockey Yash Narredu followed front-running Kiefer till the turning for home and turned on the heat thereafter. Amber Knight responded magnificently to sail past Kiefer for a comfortable win.

The Grand Annual Mile saw only two runners facing the starter. Jockey PS Chouhan atop the Bharath Singh-trained on-money favourite Lady Sunshine (Sir Cecil – Sunshine Girl) allowed Aeropoli to call the shots till near the 300m marker and subsequently went ahead to win by a distance. PS Chouhan completed a brace of victories when his mount Born To Be Spoilt(Kingda Ka – Looming) had to be stretched to his full potential to get the better of second favourite Yawar in the race for the Fiddler Handicap. The winner is trained by Anil Kumar.

It is no secret that this centre has a dearth of able apprentices. Grabbing the opportunity, apprentice jockeys Haridas Gore and Mustakim Alam of western India recorded a victory each atop fancied runners. The former, claiming an allowance of 2kg astride Faisal Abbas-trained Zukor (Roderic O’Connor-Queen’s Guest) pocketed the upper division of the Royal Challenge Handicap without much ado. The one for the notebook is C’est L’amour who finished third. Mustakim riding the latter found his moment of glory in the Silver Beauty Handicap where he guided home the six-year-old chestnut gelding Remy Red (Varenar – Luminous One) to a seven-length triumph over top-weight Rocket Man. The failure in the race was the favourite Oh My Sweetheart who finished fourth. The grey filly needs to be watched carefully in the future.

The lower division of the Royal Challenge Handicap saw the on-money favourite Dance Along piloted by ace rider Suraj Narredu succumb to the outsider Sporting Trainer from Vikash Jaiswal’s yard. The five-year-old by Chinese Whisper out of Mount Rushmore was given one hell of a ride by Vinay Jaiswal as he weaved his way through traffic from mid-division to hug the rails and win spectacularly by a neckfrom the top-weight public fancy.

Another competent ride was witnessed in the day’s final event when jockey Shrikant Kamble astride Daniel David-trained Twenty Six Black (Tenth Star-Zahour Al Yasmeen) took the shortest route home to get the better of course favourite Fortune Teller who ended up third. Star Justice ran on to occupy the runner-up berth.
