The Royal Calcutta Turf Club last staged the Invitation Cup in 2018 won by Kangra. That was a memorable fare indeed. However, this year having joined hands with Horse Power Sports League, they have outdone themselveswith amazing preparation to ensure a fabulous treat in store. Visitors and invitees to the weekend of super-racing are likely to be enthralled by what awaits them.      

Apart from the sixteen races framed for the weekend, RCTC will dish out a culinary spread that is likely to please every gourmet’s palate. For first-timers, it will be fun and games all along while for the regulars, there is themore important task of winner-spotting. The presence of 71 horses from other centres is sure to make that task a lot tougher. Prasanna Kumar, Adhiraj Singh Jodha, Neil Darashah, Rajesh Narredu and Pesi Shroff are some of the big names among trainers who will be on view while leading horsemen PS Chouhan, Suraj Narredu, Yash Narredu  and Trevor Patel will be performing their wizardry in the saddle. The piece de resistance of the weekend’s races is The Invitation Cup with seven participants. Trainer Karthik Ganapathy is confident that his eight-year-old mare Juliette is fit enough to take on the younger lot and will complete a hattrick of wins in this event – a feat if successful is unlikely to be matched in the near future. Juliette is branded as a ‘wonder mare’ and this ‘mother of all races’ is very much within her reach.

The Turf Authorities Of India Racing Awards is scheduled for Saturday evening. The categories are champion trainer, champion owner, champion jockey, champion stud farm, champion horse of the year and the Hall Of Fame award.
