The final day’s races of the winter season proved profitable for the punters, four firm favourites and a couple of fancied second choices coming through in the eight-event card. Trainer Prasanna Kumar, who enjoyed a fine run with his juveniles emerged the Champion Trainer with 24 wins to his credit, while leading jockey Antony Raj topped the list of the saddle artistes booting home 26 winners including punching home Lex Luthor in the concluding event of the season. P Siddaraju, vastly improved apprentice with seven winners under his belt won the Champion Apprentice Jockey title.

The famed Kunigal Stud Farm again was adjudged the Champion Stud Farm, 23 bred horses from this farm entering the winners’ enclosure. The top class performer Siege Courageous from Prasanna Kumar’s yard bagged the `Horse Of The Season’ title, while the Winter Derby winner Jamari from the stables of champion Mumbai trainer Pesi Shroff’s  was declare the `Champion Horse’.

Second in demand at the betting ring, Pericles from Sulaiman Attaollahi’s yard won the final plum of the season, the Governor’s Trophy run over a mile. The winner confidently piloted by Akshay Kumar assumed command at the top of the straight and easily snuffed out the challenge of Mandarino, while the favourite Kalki from Hyderabad failed to successfully match strides with the first two.

In the race for the Champion Trainer Trophy, Armstrong from Faraz Arshad’s yard finally earned a winning bracket. The winner, who had failed to score when fancied strongly in a couple of events at Mysore and failed to make a favourable impression in his two earlier starts this winter came good in the hands of Imran Chisty, gallantly pegging back the challenge of the runner-up Devils Magic and the top weighted Aherne in the final furlong to register his long over-due success.

The Champion Jockey, Antony Raj won the upper division of the Champion Jockey Trophy on the six to one shot Lex Luthor from Kishan Thomas’ yard. Long shot Worldly Wise followed the winner home, while the heavily backed favourite Able One from the stables of Azhar Ali and the top second fancy The Grey Geranium failed to even save money in place.

The lower division of the event was claimed by the well-backed Eco Friendly from MR Singh’s yard. The winner was strongly piloted by Imran Chisty.

Leading pro Srinath recorded a popular double through the two overwhelming favourites, Amazing Ruler and Thewhisperquietly. The former who looked a picture of fitness in the paddock parade donkey-licked his seven rivals in the upper division of the Trombay Stakes, while the Dominic schooled Thewhisperquietly recorded his second straight win in style, romping home nice and easy in the Leading Stud Cup run over a mile. Amazing Ruler from Prithviraj’s yard looks a good type of youngster and it will pay to support him again in the forthcoming summer season.

The rangy Promiseofthefuture from Irfan Ghatala’s yard making his debut reigned supreme in the lower division of the Trombay Stakes run over a distance of seven furlongs. The favourite after failing to gain a favourable position early, produced a heartwarming gallop in the final furlong to zoom past Westlake and start his career on a winning note.

The 10 to one long shot Dawn Rising provided Faraz and Chisty a nourishing double after Armstrong earned his long pending cornbill today. Dawn Rising assumed command approaching the distance post and then held on gamely to score from Akasi.
