Trainer P Quinn leading Savvy Chic (P Trevor up), winner of The Adjudicate Cup

Trainer Patrick Quinn combined fruitfully with saddle artist P Trevor to fetch home a brace with Speculator and Savvy Chic. The latter – a bay mare by Roderic O’Connor out of Coccinella – made every post of The Adjudicate Cup a winning  one. Harvestime followed her all the way but was edged out for the runner-up berth by a fast moving Stockbridge along the rails. One race earlier, in the Adiella Handicap run over seven furlongs, Trevor rode a clever finish atop eight-year-old Speculator (Multidimensional – Prolific) to leave the field standing in the final 100 metres or so. He had his aged mount covered up till the distance post where he shot him ahead. The disappointment in the race was Dubai King who bled through the nostrils and failed to finish the course. This was his fifth outing in two months and he may well have felt the strain under the hot summer sun. Cosmic Cowboy has switched stables recently and his second start at his new home seems to suggest that he may be comfortable over seven furlongs as he ended up runner-up to Speculator.

In the race for the Dare To Dream Handicap run over five-and-half furlongs, B Mahesh-trained La Dominate was backed down to 16/10 and justified the favouritism with a thunderous victory in record time. Following Kalahari Gold till the straight, the son of  Dali out of Lucy In The Sky shot ahead in the hands of Vivek to win effortlessly in a record time of 1min 4.01 sec. The afternoon commenced with a hard-fought victory for Narendra Lad trained Yawar (Moonlight Magic – Yemen Desert) with Mustakim Alam astride. He won the mile race for the Amberdue Handicap by a narrow margin from Sun God. The second favourite Septimus Severus was never in the race.

In the sprint for the Robin Hood Handicap, Chili Lady was backed to the exclusion of all others and closed at 10-to-7-on. The filly was however squeezed out at the start and never recovered her position. Trainer Anil Kumar’s rank outsider Sparkle And Shine (Win Legend -Terra Nova) was given a rail-run by Hindu Singh and did well to edge out Bundle Of Charm at the wire. The curtain came down with Rajesh Narredu-trained Mandela making every post of the 2000 metres race for the Native Knight Cup a winning one. Vivek displayed splendid pace -judgement atop the five-year-old by Roderic O’Connor out of Attractress. His dam Attractress was a winner of the Golconda Oaks and short-head second in the Golconda Derby of 2009.
