Caprese impressive in victory

Caprese (C Ruzzan up), being led in by Mr.Dhariwal & Mr.Zeyn Mirza

Jaggy Dhariwal has a star in the making in Caprese. The daughter of Burden of Proof recorded a smashing win in the 1400 metres Karnataka Trophy, a terms race for three-year olds which was the highlight of Saturday’s races. The ease with which she won despite conceding weight to her adversaries spoke of her immense potential. Caprese should blossom into a top class contender during the Bangalore Summer Season. Caprese who had recorded a smashing win in her debut run was the firm favourite ahead of Seis Carona who enjoyed a pull in weights plus the reputation of having run the highly rated Galloping Bay close. Seis Carona led on sufferance, with Caprese racing in close proximity while the rest were struggling for pace in the seven furlong trip. Rounding the final bend, jockey Ruzzan pushed Caprese to the front and the favourite bounced away from her pursuer to win by a widening margin of five lengths without being extended. Carigielaw moved from the rear to take the third spot ahead of Fort Knox. Caprese clocked an excellent time of one minute 26.96 seconds for the seven furlong trip. The winning sequences of Noble Excellency and Tribal Fantasy were halted by Arjun Mangalorkar trained Itsmyday who got up in time to overhaul the former in the shadow of the post. Jockey Ruzzan who replaced Srinath on Itsmyday, thus ended the day on a bright note, with three winners to his credit after a dry spell at Mumbai. Ruzzan had a good run in Bangalore before he moved to Mumbai where he ran into a bad patch but the association with Dr Mallya’s stable once again, has helped him regain his confidence as evidenced by the fruitful weekend he had. Tribal Fantasy who had been beaten by Noble Excellency by a distance in the past was expected to put it across the latter on the basis of the improvement shown by the daughter of Tecorno. However, the temperamental filly played up while being stalled and expended considerable energy. She could not do the customary front-running role as no-hopper Dare You Say took charge and though she surged ahead on turning for home, she was not quickening the way she had always done. Noble Excellency got the measure of her in the final furlong and shaped like a winner but Itsmyday’s finishing burst spoilt it close home. Splash of Class edged out Tribal Fantasy for the third slot. Auberge who had reportedly bled internally during her last run was given sufficient rest before being put in the fray in the Smt Satyavathy V Char Memorial Cup (Div II). The daughter of Burden of Proof led all the way and comfortably staved off the challenge of Ministrel Girl and a late-finishing Sandokan. Parthenon proved too good in the upper division slamming the opposition pointless. Stilton was a faraway second ahead of Freebee who took the assigned slot. Both the winners clocked a comparatively slower timing than the one clocked by Caprese. David Badel who had an arm-chair ride to victory on Parthenon, had earlier in the day, was successful on Bratz in the Katil Plate, a 1100 metres race for maiden three-year olds. Bratz left the field cold in the final furlong to win as she pleased from Linette and Lava whose run was suggestive. Red Fort got the better of Far Storm with a great deal of ease while two strongly fancied horses Choreographer and Perfectremembrance bit the dust in their respective events. Sunlight King, who had failed as a strong public fancy, had the odds in his favour this time as he edged out Perfectremembrance comfortably.
