Most railbirds recovered a major portion of the losses they suffered on the opening day of the summer season, most fancied contestants in the small card of six events justifying their top billing, while powering home nice and easy to the delight of the followers of form. 

The even-money favourite African Gold from trainer Parvati's yard served notice of his potential, donkey-licking his four rivals including the winner of the Poonawalla Multi-Million, Excellent Lass from trainer Rajesh Narredu's yard. The talented filly in line for a hat-trick performed below par and surprisingly finished a tame third behind the runner-up Masato. The moment Suraj Narredu cracked the whip on Excellent Lass, the filly ducked twice and Suraj, it was clear lost balance and from this point, the leading pro understanding that African Gold had put the rest to bed, chose not to pack punch on Excellent Lass and safely land home in the testing underfoot conditions following the steady drizzle all through the day. Satish Narredu revealed that the filly in her two earlier starts had readily responded to her master's call and  it was very surprising that she ducked in and out and failed to make a race of it. Well it was clear that on this day that even if Excellent Lass had performed to the expectations of the Narredus, she would not have beaten African Gold who has emerged a frontliner for the Colts Championship Stakes after his two authoritative wins from as many starts. All credit to Parvati for sending out the colt in the classic mould in fine shape and it is needless to mention that following Santissimo's impressive effort against a quality opposition and Knotty Legend's brilliant winter campaign, the second classic of the season scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 3, promises to be a humdinger. 

The principal added attraction, the KN Guruswamy Memorial Trophy was split into two divisions and another classic hopeful Flight On from trainer Prasanna Kumar's yard, who went down fighting to Excellent Lass in the Poonawalla Multi-Million, simply proved too good in the upper division cantering home a `distance' ahead of the runner-up Alsvior. Trevor Patel pushed the public rage to the front the moment the eight runners came under the starter's flag for the sprint trip and soon it was evident that Flight On was in a different league, bolting in nice and easy, while sending out a message that he has the ability to test the best in the Colts classic. 

The lower division of the event was claimed by another youngster, Masaki from Prasanna's yard. After the favourite Corinthian from Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard was withdrawn on veterinary grounds, Masaki partnered by Sai Kiran garnered maximum support and readily justified the confidence of her supporters, producing a winning gallop in the final furlong to score from True Punch, who flashed home late on the scene. The debutant The Milenium Force from the stables of Warren Singh, who tailed the winner for most part of the trip finished third ahead of Joon, who will benefit most from this exercise. 

The Arjun Manglorkar schooled Czar came up trumps in the Col.Desraj Urs Trophy comfortably making every post a winning one in the hands of .G Vivek. The smart winner fancied strongly by the insiders and right connections appears in fine nick and is set to provide an encore.  Prime Abbess from trainer Imtiaz Khan's yard surprised most gaining the runner-up spot ahead of Rapidus, while Stellantis completed the frame. The topweighted Philosophy, stablemate of Prime Abbess lost a couple of lengths at the start and never got going in a trip which really didn't suit her style. 

The connections of Grizzly did well to capitalise on the form of the four-year-old colt, who detonated his rivals on the opening day. Sai Kiran who partnered the Warren Singh ward on the first day again successfully guided the fortunes of Grizzly who chalked out his second straight success in a week, hitting the front and bolting in to the delight of his supporters. Blue God from Arjun's yard piloted by Antony Raj followed the winner home ahead of Irish Rockstar, while the top fancy Constable only managed to stay on board. Now that Grizzly has won twice without really working up a sweat he is likely to complete a hat-trick of wins if his connections place him well in the upper class in the weeks ahead. 

Free To Play from Azhar Ali's yard proved too good, while providing Antony Raj his first win this season. The winner hit the front soon after the field of nine runners came under the starter's flag and never let the initiative slip powering home in the concluding event, the Moonlight Romance Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. Many knowledgeable were of the view that Free To Play is not a good betting proposition taking into account that he dosen't jump well out of the gates, but on a day he looked fit and fine and ready to earn his cornbill, Free To Play jumped out of his skin to outclass his eight rivals and on the strength of this facile victory is set to add to his kitty in the weeks ahead. Akasi followed the winner home ahead of Phoenix Surprise, while Pettes Love was never in the hunt.
