It was third time lucky for five-year old Ataash from Nazzak Chenoy's yard, who did not taste success for over a year but had earlier finished runner-up in both her last outings at Mumbai. The withdrawal of favourite Miss American Pie at the gates made the Vishal Bunde-guided bay mare's task somewhat easy in the JE Hughes Trophy, the day's main event, which she claimed with a fluent win. Soup And Sandwich shot into the lead with Zukor and Dexa in hot pursuit whilst Ataash was settled towards the inner rails close behind. Dexa was pressed into the lead by Antony Raj when the heads turned for home but before he could breathe easy, Ataash came charging towards him. Bunde showed great presence of mind in switching lanes while essaying his challenge at the turn and then drove Ataash confidently to gain ground on Dexa before overwhelming him in the last 100m. Ataash (Speaking Of Which – Sacred Fire) pulled away for a two-length victory over Dexa, who held on to the second berth ahead of Fortune Teller and Vincent Van Gogh. Unlike his previous two runs when he accomplished two start-to-finish missions at Mahalaxmi, Pesi Shroff saddled El Greco graced the wrong end of the field till entering the straight and then veered out under pressure before finishing a close sixth over a trip which was a bit sharp for him. Bubbly Boy was not given a punishing race as he finished on leisurely to end a neck behind El Greco.

Nazzak was delighted no end when Antony Raj ridden Attained repelled the onslaught of Prashant Dhebe piloted Pure in a tantalising finish which helped his master to achieve a well-deserved double at the end of the day’s proceedings. Earlier, top-weighted Majestic Warrior grabbed the lead at the start and appeared to be in a commanding position when he brushed aside the threat posed by Fiery Red, who chased him all the way till the last furlong. Last-outing winner Champagne Smile also came through the shortest way home but the front-running trio was stunned by both Attained and Pure, who came with long-ranging strides in the last furlong. However, Antony packed enough power in his finishing effort astride Attained (Roderic O'Connor - Forgotten Voice) to escape the clutches of Pure, who had all but beaten the winner in the last few strides. Champagne Smile finished in the money a short-head in front of Majestic Warrior.

Karthik Ganapathy nurtured Golden Thunder, who made a winning debut on the Indian Derby day at Mahalaxmi, proved that his success was no flash in the pan as he registered the most emphatic win of the day. Though making his second appearance after a gap of nearly six months, Karthik had Golden Thunder (Crystal Ocean – High Above) well primed for this venture as was evident when the favourite outclassed his opponents including joint-favourite Golden Legend, the challenger from Bangalore. Golden Thunder raced on the haunches of Desert Classic, who showed the way to the nine-horse field, and took control of the running as they approached the final turn. The bay gelding brought the field into the home stretch and was never in any danger of being caught with Antony eventually easing up his mount in the final stages of the nine-furlong event. Seeking Alpha finished a faraway second, a neck ahead of Little Minister. Golden Legend ran far below expectations and ended a disappointing fourth, a distance behind the first three horses.

Racing a Class III handicap event for the first time, the Dallas Todywalla schooled three-year old chestnut filly Field Of Dreams scored her second career win when lifting the Janardhan Trophy. Akshay Kumar kept her within striking distance of the front-running duo Christophany and Alpine Star till the final turn and then seized the opening offered by the latter. Christophany offered stiff resistance but Field Of Dreams (Leitir Mor – Realmsoffantasy) asserted her superiority in the final furlong and kept going to keep In Thy Light at bay. In Thy Light, who was ridden off the pace till the heads turned for home by Antony, failed to catch the winner and could only manage to edge out Christophany for the second slot. Metzinger completed the judge's frame.

Storm Cloud and Windborne claimed the two divisions of the Winfair247 Rising Stars Trophy in identical fashion as both the juveniles made every post of the five-furlong scurry a winning one. The Narendra Lagad trainee Storm Cloud (Leitir Mor – Priceless Art showed plenty of initial speed to hit the front from the barriers and Mustakim Alam thereafter steered the colt to safety for his maiden success. A. Sandesh partnered runner-up Timeless Vision lacked initial speed and the favourite warmed up late to her task to end up beating stable-mate Gypsy Soul and Flashman, who chased the winner from the word go.

Adhirajsingh Jodha groomed filly Windborne (Western Aristocrat – Siobhan) took control of the running after sorting out the field shortly after the start and then showed a clean pair of heels to her rivals in the hands of CS Jodha. Debutante Cache, who pursued Windborne all the way, made a gallant attempt to catch the winner but found the winning post arriving a bit too soon for his liking. The Pesi Shroff trained runner-up should gain from this educative run and find his mark sooner rather than later. Star Impact ended third whilst Dancing Star finished fourth.

The five-year old Black Thunder (formerly named Idealista) tasted her maiden success under the strong handling of jockey TS Jodha, who utilised the maximum allowed limit of using his whip on the mare when carving a narrow half-length victory over Yuletide. Moonlight Kiss took off like a scalded cat from the gates and went at a suicidal pace when opening up a long gap in the initial stages of the seven furlong journey. Jodha made his move as the heads turned for home when Moonlight Kisses had almost run out of fuel. With She’s A Teaser going nowhere in the straight, Black Thunder (Ampere – Darkara) zoomed ahead but found favourite Yuletide breathing down her neck. Jodha went all out aboard Black Thunder and rode her vigorously to win by warding off Yuletide. Tyrone Black ran third after She’s A Teaser faded out.

Faisal Abbas trained Mojo was backed to the exclusion of her seven rivals in the day’s opening event and she justified her favouritism as Sandesh powered her to a narrow win over Mirae, who seized the initiative soon after the start was given. Mojo stayed close on the heels of the leader till the race came to a boil following which Sandesh applied pressure on the mare. Both horses went stride for stride in the straight with Sandesh astride Mojo (Planetaire – Melena) managing to snatch the verdict close home. Phanta ran thereabouts to finish third ahead of Talking Point.
