RCTC SET TO KICK-OFF MONSOON MEET
By Epsom Ace | 29 Jul 2024 | KOLKATA
The Royal Calcutta Turf Club is all set to kick-off the Monsoon meeting of 2024 on Tuesday with a well-filled competitive card of seven races. If this is an indication of what is to follow, then local turfites can expect a bumper meet – short but sweet. The Meeting will comprise ten race days and is scheduled to conclude on October 6 with the running of the two premier races of the season - The Calcutta Monsoon Derby and The Monsoon Cup.
Sixty-one races including 15 Cup events have been advertised to be run during these ten weeks. The advertised Stake Money for the Meeting is Rs. 3.71 Cr. with Cups and Trophies valued at Rs. 4.85 lakhs. We would like to further add that for stakes earned by horses under the charge of 'A' licensed Trainers, bonus stakes of 15% will be given for all Non-sweepstakes Handicap & Juvenile races.
Some of the big names to follow among the trainers are Neil Darashah, Aashay Doctor, Bharath Singh and Adhiraj Jodha. Those looking for longer odds may shift their focus to men like Vikash Jaiswal, Anil Kumar, Mahesh, Javed Khan and Shafiq Khan. An array of outstation riding talent will be on view during the days when classics and sweepstakes races are to be run.
HPSL Sports and Leisure Private Limited will be sponsoring the following races - Calcutta Juvenile Sprint, Calcutta Fillies Trial Stakes, Calcutta Colts Trial Stakes, Calcutta Monsoon Sprint, Calcutta Monsoon Derby and Monsoon Cup. Currently 273 racing horses are stationed at RCTC under the charge of 22 ‘A’ and 'B' licensed Trainers. The numbers are expected to rise as the Season progresses.
To entice members and their guests to the racecourse, RCTC has introduced a ‘Pick Six’ contest for them. Participants will have to predict winners of the last six races of the day and the grand prize for the contest at the end of the monsoon meeting is Rs. 10 lakh. Also being conducted is the regular RCTC Tipsters' Tally Contest restricted to websites and publications.
