Jamari can never lose in Bengaluru. The classy filly enjoys the salubrious climate and loves the track. Pitted against four rivals including her stablemate Supernatural and the Mysore Derby winner Touch Of Grey, in the prestigious Maharaja’s Cup, the star performer from Pesi Shroff’s  yard  looked outstanding and in the hands of Vivek produced another stellar effort to keep her all-win record at Bengaluru intact. Vivek tracked the two front runners, Touch Of Grey and the nohoper Pissarro for most part of the 2000 metres trip before he reminded the champion filly of the task ahead at the top of the straight and Jamari readily produced an astounding gallop to effortlessly cruise past Touch Of Grey and add another feather to her classic hat. Supernatural finished third ahead of Trevalius in the small field of five runners in the major plum, which surprisingly failed to attract a sizable field.

LG’s Star from Lokanath Gowda’s yard proved too good in the principal added attraction, the Madras Sappers Trophy run over a sprint. After the public choice Disciple was withdrawn before the contestants came into the parade ring, Charukala from Vijay Singh’s yard on default garnered good support. LG’s Star too had her fair share of followers. The winner to the delight of the Lokanath camp stormed ahead approaching the final furlong and put to race to bed 100 metres from home. Charukala raced in patches and eventually finished down the field. Imperial Star gained the runner-up berth ahead of Striking Fortune and is one for the notebook. 

A smart last start winner Never Give In and Ricardo, both from the stables of Arjun Manglorkar topped the betting board in the AMC Gowda Memorial Trophy before the latter piloted by Sandesh gained the day. Art Gallery from the stables of Dominic was strongly fancied in place and the trusted soldier just managed to gain the third spot from The Athabasca, who found this company too hot to handle after his two straight wins. 

The Neil Devaney schooled Mazal Tov was the most impressive winner  of the day. Competing in the upper division of the Southern Empire Plate, the favourite jumped out well in the hands of leading pro Antony Raj and donkey-licked his seven rivals including High Speed Dive who never was in the hunt. Last start winner Brave Majesty followed Mazal Tov home in front of Instructor, who was  quietly and sweetly fancied in place. 

The lower division of the event was claimed by the lesser fancied The Gallery Time from Warren Singh’s yard. The winner piloted by Pradeep edged out last start winner Cat Whiskers close home. The top weighted Ebotse was withdrawn on veterinary ground. Smile Of Beauty from Dominic’s yard was fancied most, but the strongly backed public choice failed to raise a winning gallop after being favourably placed at the top of the straight and only managed to finish a poor fourth. 

Earlier, the talented Positano from Sulaiman Attaollahi’s yard who had finished a `neck’ behind the Poonawalla Multi-Million and Filles Championship Stakes winner Excellent Lass in the winter season, made an smashing appearance this season, cantering home  in the Lagarde Plate run over a mile. Positano, it is clear has the ability to test the best at this centre and his connections, it is learnt have decided to pitch him in the blue riband event, the HPSL Derby scheduled to be held on Aug 25. The Leader from Azhar Ali’s yard, who finished second behind Casteel in his earlier effort again came up against one better and hopefully it will prove to be third time lucky for the Azhar youngster. 

The opening event, the Commanche Plate run over a sprint produced a shock result, the friendless Meghann coming up trumps. The winner paid a rich dividend of Rs 388 on a tenner at the tote window. The favourite Loving Pearl, who had done well to finish second behind Striking Eyes failed to reproduce that effort and failed to even save money in place. Infinite Spirt gained the runner-up berth ahead of Mega Success, while Perfect Halo completed the frame.
