JERSEY KING IS BACK AT HIS BEST

Mr Shankar Srinivas, Mr Ashok Ranpise & trainer S Dominic leading Jersey King (Suraj Narredu up), winner of The Police Trophy

The champion trainer of the Bangalore summer season, Arjun Manglorkar stole the limelight leading in two winners, La McQueen and Czar. The former edged out the local hopeful Hand Of God in a humdinger in the FK Irani Memorial Million, while Czar had it easy, proving too good for his seven rivals in the MW Chinnappa Memorial Trophy run over a sprint.

In the plum event, the Irfan Ghatala schooled Rodney and a facile last start winner Phoenomenon from trainer Dominic's yard topped the betting board before Rodney piloted by Saqlain ended the firm favourite on the strength of his two impressive efforts from his three starts. The `Jodi' according to most pundits was considered safe, but that was not to be, the two top fancies running out of gas before the race came on a boil. La McQueen partnered by the in-form Antony Raj, who recorded a fine treble and Hand Of God  in  the hands of Sai Kiran were locked in a ding-dong battle before the Arjun ward gained the day in  a thrilling finish. Phoenomenon finished a tame third, while Rodney again took a lot of good money down the drain.

Czar looked outstanding in the next event and the public rage didn't really need to extend himself while detonating his seven rivals. The advantageously placed in at the scales,  Brave Trooper piloted by apprentice Abishek Matre followed Czar home, while Segera produced a gutsy effort to save money in place, shouldering a backbreaking weight of 66 kilos while finishing a creditable third ahead of Seolfor Bullet.

Antony, earlier booted home another public choice O Manchali in the Talakadu Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The top choice from Rakesh's yard tracked the two front runners, Pette's Choice and Red Hills for most part of the trip before assuming command and quickly putting the race to bed in the final furlong. Natural One from the stables of Vinesh Naik in the hands of G Vivek produced a good gallop and looked in with a chance to upset the applecart of O Manchali before he alarmingly shifted out and had to rest content with the runner-up berth ahead of NRI Touch.

The Dominic schooled Jersey King was the most impressive winner of the day. The half-money favourite competing in the Police Trophy in the hands of leading saddle artiste hit the front soon after the dozen runners came under the starter's flag and toyed with the opposition all through the six furlongs trip, cantering home in a smart time of 1:10.3 seconds. The winner certainly could have stopped the clock much earlier had Suraj pushed him to do so, instead the top `Knight' eased up the smart winner a furlong from home. Jersey King on the strength of this performance looks set to provide an encore. "He looked outstanding in this moderate set and he really produced an eye-catching effort said, the delighted part-owner Shankar Srinivas pleased with Jersey King's resounding win after his disappointing essay in his last start in the Bangalore summer season. "We really were disappointed after his flop show and now that he is back in the winners' circle, I'm extremely delighted," said Shankar Srinivas.

On the strength of his fine showing in his last start, second behind  Dabeet who won in emphatic fashion on Thursday, Confident Game from  Hellal Moses' yard was strongly supported to come out on top in the Jog Falls Plate run over a mile and the overwhelming favourite made no mistake storming up to hit the front 300 metres from home before putting the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Second in demand at the betting ring, Aurele from Feroz Khan's yard followed the winner home, while the lesser fancied Forest View from the stables of Monnappa who was sweetly fancied in place came home third much to the joy of his supporters.

In what appeared a very open race, the seven to one shot Polar Wind from Monnappa's yard piloted in copybook fashion by Alex Rozario won the opening event, the Paddock Plate run over a mile. The winner in a close finish edged out another lesser fancied contestant David's Delight from Hellal Moses' yard, while Eco System finished third ahead of the favourite Vardaan.

A facile last start winner Silver Spring from Vinesh Naik's yard  pitted against mediocre rivals in the concluding event, the Yelahanka Plate was touted a `pick up money' bet and the Vinesh ward proved that right donkey-licking her seven rivals to win by more than eight lengths in the hands of Aman who partnered him in his last win., Silver Spring is on top of her game and is set to register a hat-trick when saddled next. Hasting Sunrise surprised most while gaining the runner-up spot ahead of Spiritual Force, while Tower Quest in line for a hat-trick, it appeared conveniently lost his galloping shoes and only completed the frame.
